Shipbuilder Damen Sues Dutch Gov't over Russia Sanctions

Dutch shipbuilder Damen Shipyards has sued the Dutch government over damages it says it has suffered due to European sanctions against Russia.Damen, which produces a wide-ranging fleet of industrial and military vessels and luxury yachts, is seeking compensation for business lost due to the sanctions, company spokesman Rick van de Weg said, confirming an earlier report by Bloomberg.Damen had delivery contracts for a number of vessels across the company's portfolio that were scrapped by the sanctions invoked by Russia's invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, Van de Weg said.Damen had an engineer

Belov Engenharia Shipyard Delivers 'E-Pushboat' HB Poraque

Belov Engenharia Shipyard, located in Salvador, Brazil, delivered the first Robert Allan Ltd. designed RApide 2000-E pushboat – HB Poraque. It is the first of two battery/diesel electric vessels for Hidrovias do Brasil S.A. HB Poraque is a battery electric shallow draft pushboat, with a second vessel, HB Enguia, due for delivery in May 2023. Wilson Sons Vessel Converted in Brazil

A platform supply vessel (PSV) owned and operated by Wilson Sons UltraTug Offshore has been converted to a shallow dive support vessel (SDSV) for a Petrobras job offshore Brazil.The vessel, Fulmar, needed an upgrade from DP1 to DP2 Class notation, and the work was completed in April by Wilson Sons Estaleiros in partnership with Damen at the Wilson Sons shipyards in Guarujá.Damen said it carried out quick scan and later a feasibility study for the project before Wilson Sons had been awarded the contract.Daniel Pereira, Maintenance Manager said, “The project was not without its challenges.

WEG, Praxis Sign MoU to Support Damen Saab Bid for Brazilian Navy

On December 13th, Brazilian company WEG Electric Equipment, and Dutch company Praxis Automation Technology, both leading companies within their respective fields, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to support the bid of Damen Shipyards Group and Saab for the construction of four corvettes for the Brazilian Navy. Alphatron Marine Opens Office in Belgium

Alphatron Marine said it has acquired a new office and warehouse space in Zwijndrecht, Belgium to serve customers in Belgium and France. The new location – operational since September and officially opened on November 9, 2016 – replaces the company’s existing Meerdonk office. Alphatron Marine Belgium is part of a group of companies governed by Alphatron Marine. Together, they act as importer, producer, developer and service provider of navigation, communication and automation systems. Besides this, the company provides specialized IT solutions.

Water-cooled WGM Motors From WEG

Water-cooled WGM motors are particularly suitable for marine applications with harsh operating conditions and constrained spaces, the manufacturer said.

WEG, a supplier of drive technology, introduced its water-cooled WGM motors to the shipbuilding industry for the first time at SMM 2014. The WGM water-cooled induction motors are compact, offer low noise emissions, provide optimal heat dissipation and are suitable for frequency inverter operation. As such, they are suitable for a wide variety of applications on ships or offshore platforms including drive systems for main or maneuvering propulsion, and for pumps or fans. WGM motors are cooled by a water jacket consisting of tubes or a cavity filled with water.

WEG to Showcase Drive Solutions at SMM

WEG, a global supplier of drive systems, will showcase its range of systems for the shipbuilding and offshore industry at this year’s SMM (Shipbuilding, Machinery & Marine Technology Fair) in Hamburg. From September 9-12, visitors to Stand 303 in Hall B6 can learn more about WEG’s standard and special drive systems designed for ships and other on-board support tasks. Cummins Launches QSK60 Power Emergency Genset

Cummins announced the latest addition to the C Power product line, the QSK60 C Power (CP) emergency generator set. Engineered by the Cummins Center of Excellence for the demands of offshore applications, the QSK60 C Power genset is driven by the QSK60 marine auxiliary engine with MCRS fuel system. GPA Wins Astromaritima Contract for Two OSRVs

In 2010, Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering firm Guido Perla & Associates, Inc. (GPA) signed a contract with Brazilian shipyard Estaleiro Ilha S.A. (Eisa) for one GPA 462-10 OSRV, designed specifically to Petrobras requirements (OSRV 750-10). Later on, an order for an additional OSRV followed. Both vessels are currently under construction at EISA for the Brazilian offshore operator Astromaritima Navegacao S/A. The 64-meter vessels are outfitted with a diesel-electric propulsion system comprised of Caterpillar and Berg Propulsion equipment.

Two GPA 675 PSV Newbuilds for Astromaitima

In 2011, Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering firm Guido Perla & Associates, Inc. (GPA) signed a contract with Brazilian shipyard EISA. Estaleiro Ilha for two GPA 675 PSV designed specifically to Petrobras requirements (PSV 3000). Both vessels are currently under construction at EISA for the Brazilian offshore operator Astromaritima Navegacao S/A. The vessels are outfitted with a diesel-electric propulsion system comprised of equipment by Berg Propulsion and Caterpillar. The system consists of two azimuthing drives, each rated for 2,500kW and two bow thrusters, each rated for 750kW.
