Southwest Marine Wins Navy Contract

The Navy has reportedly awarded Southwest Marine Inc. (SWM) a cost-plus-award-fee contract worth $11.6 million for Post Shakedown Availabilities (PSAs) for Aegis destroyers USS Fitzgerald (DDG 62) and USS Stethem (DDG 63). The contract includes the option for work on USS Benfold (DDG 65), USS Milius (DDG 69) and USS Hopper (DDG 70), bringing the possible total of the contract to approximately $30 million. The work package consists of post delivery repairs, preservation and upgrades to the hull as well as the mechanical and electrical systems. Work is scheduled for April-June 1996 on USS Stethem, and for May-August on USS Fitzgerald. The balance of the work on the remaining three vessels will be concluded by May 1988. All work is being performed in SWM's San Diego yard.
