Air India chairman says that the flight that crashed had a clean engine history
Air India Chairman N. Chandrasekaran stated on Wednesday that the Boeing Dreamliner that crashed last week with 242 passengers on board had a clean history of engines.
Chandrasekaran told Indian broadcaster Times Now that Air India Flight 171's left engine had last been serviced in 2023, while the right engine is new and was installed in March 2025.
The Dreamliner is equipped with GE Aerospace GEnx engines.
After takeoff, the Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner headed for Gatwick Airport in south London started losing altitude. The world's worst aviation accident in the last decade killed all but one passenger, and around 30 people on the ground.
