Anne Hathaway joins Red Bull's high-speed league after stepping off the red carpet
Anne Hathaway, Oscar-winning actress and sportswoman, has joined a consortium led by women who have acquired the Red Bull Italy SailGP Team. This is a historic deal that brings Hollywood star power to this high-octane championship.
Jimmy Spithill, the sailing legend, has been appointed as the team's CEO and co-owner. Investors from the entertainment, luxury goods, and finance industries have also invested in this venture, which SailGP CEO Russell Coutts described as "another important milestone in SailGP’s growth as a professional league".
SailGP, the international sailing league, features high-performance F50 catamarans. National teams compete in short-format racing at coastal venues all over the world.
The series, which was founded in 2018, aims to revolutionise the sailing industry with high-speed events made for broadcast and cutting-edge analytics.
In the current SailGP Season, 12 teams are competing. Mubadala New York Sail Grand Prix is scheduled for the weekend of June 7 and 8. (Reporting and editing by Ed Osmond, Ossian shine)
