Australia has received AUKUS sub review from the US
Richard Marles, Australia's Defence Minister, said that Australia has received the United States review of the AUKUS partnership for nuclear submarines and is "working it through". In June, President Donald Trump announced that his administration had begun a formal review of the AUKUS deal. The deal is worth hundreds of millions of dollars and will enable Australia to purchase U.S.-made nuclear submarines. The review sparked alarm in Canberra. However, concerns were eased after Trump expressed his support for this programme during a meeting in October with Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese.
"We have received the AUKUS Review now." Marles, a reporter on Thursday, said that they were working through the AUKUS Review and thanked the United States for supplying it. What's important is that the United States fully supports AUKUS.
Elbridge Colby was the Pentagon's Undersecretary who led the review. He said that last year, submarines were an important commodity and U.S. industries could not meet American demand.
AUKUS, Australia's largest-ever defence programme, will see Canberra commit A$368 Billion ($240 Billion) over the next three decades. This includes billions in investment into the U.S. sub production base. Australia announced Monday it would reorganise the defence bureaucracy by forming a Defence Delivery Agency, which will report directly to ministers. This move is intended to improve spending on defence and accelerate delivery of projects.
