Brazil is out of the Germany Sail Grand Prix following a high-speed crash during practice

Posted to Maritime Reporter on August 15, 2025

Brazil won't be competing in this weekend's Germany Sail Grand Prix after its F50 foiling catamaran was damaged during Friday practice, while France is racing against the clock to repair their F50 following both vessels colliding in Sassnitz.

The F50 boat, led by Quentin Delapierre, fell off its foils and caused damage to the France team.

Only seconds later, the F50 of Brazil, which had been travelling at over 80 km/h when it suddenly capsized, suffered a nosedive with high impact.

SailGP confirmed that an investigation is underway but also confirmed Brazil's absence from the weekend due to extensive damages.

In a press release, they stated that the SailGP team would be working all night to try to get France on the starting line tomorrow when racing starts at 3:30 pm CEST (1330 GMT).

Delapierre, according to SailGP, was examined at the hospital following his practice and found to be in good health. The crash did not cause any injuries to Brazilians.

Brazil is 10th with 13 points, while France is sixth with 38. New Zealand's Black Foils are the top of the table, with 64 points. (Reporting and editing by Ken Ferris in Bengaluru, Rohith Nair)
