EU targets 41 more vessels in Russia's Shadow Fleet

Posted to Maritime Reporter on December 18, 2025

The European Union imposed sanctions on Thursday against 41 additional ships of 'Russia's Shadow Fleet, bringing the total number of designated vessels to nearly 600.

EU Council: The EU has banned the ships from entering EU ports, and they can no longer receive "a wide range of services related" to maritime transport.

Moscow is still selling millions barrels of crude oil to India and China at discounted prices, even though the EU has imposed 19 sanctions packages against Russia.

Many of these goods are shipped by a shadow fleet of vessels that operate outside the Western maritime industry.

The 'EU' has already imposed sanctions on Murtaza Lakhaani and Etibar Eyyub, two Russian oil traders who helped Moscow circumvent Western sanctions against crude exports which help fund Russia’s war in Ukraine. (Reporting and editing by Inti landauro, Julia Payne and Bart Meijer)
