Imports from China to the busiest US port rose in June after tariffs were reduced
The port's director announced on Monday that imports into the largest U.S. seaport, Los Angeles, rebounded in June. They finished up 10% from a year earlier and contributed to a record volume for the entire month.
Last month, the Port of Los Angeles received 470,450 TEUs of cargo after the U.S. and China reached a truce on tariffs.
Gene Seroka is the executive director of the port. He said that the surge "highlights tariff whipsaw effects" caused by U.S. tariff policies.
Seroka stated that retailers are pushing to import goods before important holidays. He anticipates robust imports in July, before a slowdown in August when new tariffs may be implemented.
