New York SailGP fixes the issue with wingsails
SailGP announced on Monday that all repairs and upgrades of the 12 wingails on the F50 Catamarans would be completed before the New York Sail Grand Prix.
SailGP cancelled the Rio event in last month because of a defect in its wingsail, which was discovered after an Australian boat's wing fell off in San Francisco back in March.
In a press release, SailGP CEO Russell Coutts stated that the new wingsails will feature a core of Aluminum Nomex and an increased laminate. This means the shear webs are approximately twice as durable.
It's been a team effort. But our fans can look forward to seeing all 12 teams on the track when the racing begins in New York."
