North Korea promises to build a new navy destroyer before October 2026
North Korean officials, shipyard workers and state media KCNA reported Tuesday that they had pledged to finish construction of a navy destroyer warship before October 10, next year.
The video footage, which accompanied the news on North Korea's KRT state-run TV station, showed workers at the Nampho shipyard standing in attention and listening to speeches. There were also cranes and other people working nearby wearing safety helmets and uniforms.
According to KCNA, North Korea has restored a 5,000 ton destroyer damaged in an earlier launch attempt. Kim Jong Un pledged a modernized naval fleet, enhancing the country's power on the Pacific Ocean, against what he called provocations from the United States and their allies.
