NYT reports that the US has sent Cubans to Guantanamo Bay Naval Station.
New York Times, citing sources familiar with the situation, reported that the U.S. Government?has sent 22 Cuban migrants for deportation to its naval base at?Guantanamo bay, Cuba.
The Times reported that the men were believed to be the first Cubans to have been sent to the base since January when Donald Trump began his second White House term. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has detained about 730 men in the base so far this year. The U.S. estimates that Trump's use?of the Guantanamo bay naval base to house migrants costs $100,000 per day. Gary Peters stated during a hearing held in May.
The White House is requesting a 'huge increase' in funding for immigration enforcement to achieve Trump’s goal of mass removals. (Reporting and editing by Doina chiacu, Rod Nickel and Bhargav acharya)
