The U.S. Naval Academy was not under threat from a shooter, according to military personnel and local police. A U.S. Navy official confirmed that the Naval Academy in Annapolis was put on lockdown Thursday because of reports about security threats.

Naval Support Activity Annapolis security officers and local law enforcement officials responded to reports at 5:07 PM ET (21107 GMT) of suspicious activities on the Naval Academy grounds.

The official stated that there was no active shooter, but one person was hurt while Naval Security Forces cleared a building. He added that the person who was injured had been medevacked, and is in stable condition.

Fox News reported that earlier, gunshots had been heard on campus.

Naval Support Activity Annapolis stated in an earlier Facebook statement that the base had been placed on lockdown out of "an abundance of caution," and that "reports" of threats to the Naval Academy were received.
