South Korea bids for estimated 157,000 tons rice

Posted to Maritime Reporter on September 22, 2025

Agro-Fisheries and Food Trade Corporation, a state-owned company in South Korea, has announced an international tender for the purchase of 157,000 metric tonnes of rice from China and America. The deadline for submitting price offers is September 30, according to European traders.

The tender is for non-glutinous brown rice short grain from China, and non-glutinous medium grain milled rice from the United States.

About 117,700 tonnes of the 157,000 tonnage sought should come from China, and the remainder from the United States.

The arrival in South Korea will be in several consignments, between December 31st 2025 and November 30th 2026. The corporation buys rice regularly with long delivery times.

Traders said that the results of the tender might not be known until a few weeks after submissions. Traders said that the corporation requires rice samples be sent to Korea to be analyzed before making a decision. (Reporting and editing by Kirby Donovan, Kirby Hogan)
