The Trump administration is planning to cancel the approval of Maryland's offshore wind project

Posted to Maritime Reporter on August 25, 2025

According to a Friday filing at the U.S. District Court of Delaware, the administration of U.S. president Donald Trump intends on withdrawing federal approval for US Wind’s offshore wind farm near the Maryland coast.

Attorneys from the Department of Justice filed a motion asking the court to stop a lawsuit that challenged the Interior Department's approval of Maryland Offshore Wind Project. The agency said it would take action to revoke the approval of the construction and operation plan for the facility by September 12th.

A spokesperson for the Interior Department had no comments.

US Wind was not available for immediate comment.

US Wind is owned jointly by Apollo Global Management (an American investment firm) and Renexia SpA (a subsidiary of Italy’s Toto Holding SpA). Construction is expected to start next year.

In September last year, the Biden administration gave its approval to the US Wind Project. The project was to produce enough electricity for 718, 000 homes in a few years. (Reporting and editing by Chris Reese; Nichola Groom)
