The Kremlin stated on Thursday that France’s boarding of an oil tanker suspected to be part of the shadow fleet that is involved in Russian oil trading was "hysteria", which could cause problems for the global energy transport routes.

Dmitry Peskov, Kremlin spokesperson in English, told reporters at the Black Sea resort Sochi that he did not know the type of oil or the origin of the oil. What if it isn't Russian oil?

What if France creates enormous problems with all international energy sources? Peskov stated. "I think this is all part of the hysteria that I spoke about before."

French police arrested the Chinese captain after the navy boarded a tanker anchored in western France. The vessel was suspected to be part of Russia's shadow fleet.
