UK bans maritime services for Russian LNG Exports
In its latest effort to aid Ukraine in its fight against Russia, Britain will ban companies that provide services like shipping and insurance to Russian exports of liquefied gas.
The European Union approved sanctions in October that will ban Russian LNG imports starting January 1, 2027. Britain and the U.S. also targeted Russia's largest oil companies Lukoil, and Rosneft.
The UK government announced on Tuesday that it would go further by blocking Russian companies from providing services for LNG exports.
The ban will be implemented in 2026, in line with the European partners. This was announced by Britain's Foreign Office in a press release before a meeting of Group of Seven Foreign Ministers in Canada.
The UK also announced a funding of $17.5 million to repair Ukraine's energy sectors and provide support to Ukrainians most affected by the loss in heating and electricity.
