US decides whether to reconsider Virginia offshore wind project approval
According to a document filed in court on Wednesday, the Trump administration is evaluating whether it should send back to the Interior Department for re-evaluation an approval given by Biden to a Virginia offshore wind project.
In a court filing to the U.S. District Court of 'the District of Columbia,' it stated that the agency was reviewing offshore wind leases in order to comply with Interior Secretary Doug Burgum’s July order?to stop preferential treatment?for wind and solar?projects.
The filing stated that "consistent with (the secretarial orders)," the?undersigned attorney is informed that DOI plans on conducting a review where it will determine if remanding would be appropriate.
The court 'filing' was done jointly with the Committee for a construtive Tomorrow, a?"conservative" group that sued Interior Department last year over the approval of Dominion Energy Coastal Virginia Offshore - Wind project.
The $11.2 billion project is currently being constructed and should be operational by the end of this year.
The Interior Department and Dominion were not immediately available to comment. (Reporting and editing by Franklin Paul, Nichola Groom)
