No official statement was made on the reported threat. Fox News, citing several sources within the academy, reported that a former midshipman expelled from school returned to the campus with a gun.

Fox News reported that gunshots could be heard in Bancroft Hall which is home to midshipmen.

According to a Facebook post from Naval Support Annapolis, "bases are on lockdown due to an excess of caution." The statement said that Navy support personnel were working with local law enforcers to "respond to reports of threats to the Naval Academy."
