South Africa investigates Iran's involvement in BRICS+ Naval Drills
South Africa's Defence Ministry?said that Minister?Angie Motshekga launched an investigation into Iran's involvement in the BRICS+ Naval exercises held in South African water over?the last week.
In a press release, the defence ministry stated that it would be examining whether President Cyril Ramaphosa’s instructions regarding Iran’s involvement had been misrepresented or ignored.
The South African news outlet Daily Maverick reported that Ramaphosa wanted Iran to withdraw its participation in the drills because of concerns over the damage it could cause to South Africa’s relationship with the United States.
