Great Ships of 2013: Damen Modular Barge
If there is one thing that we hear time and again in the maritime world is that the manufacture of boats, ships and maritime structures in general is not as efficient as found in larger, mass market transportation modes because of the unique peculiarities of each different vessel. Damen has long been a proponent of standardized production, a concept which is extended to the “Nth” degree via the Damen Modular Barge concept.
Damen Delivers Second Oil Tanker to James Fisher Everard
The Damen Double Hull Oil Tanker 8000 Kestrel Fisher was delivered end 2013 to Dutch managers De OpfeartBeheer. In a two-tanker deal, the Kestrel Fisher’s sister vessel King Fisher was delivered in June 2013. Both have been built by Damen Shipyards Bergum. Damen PSV 3300: A Diamond in the Rough
The platform supply vessel World Diamond was delivered by Damen Shipyards, Galati, on June 28, 2013, to World Wide Supply. The PSV was built to a completely new and distinctive design from Damen, and World Diamond is the first of six PSVs for the Norwegian owner. The vessel is capable of worldwide operations and its construction involved close cooperation with Damen Shipyards Gorinchem, The Netherlands, which provided engineering and main equipment.
Mexican Navy Orders Fifth Damen Stan 4207 Patrol Vessel
In November 2013 the Mexican Navy (Secretaría de Marina) and Damen Shipyards Group (the Netherlands) signed another contract for a Damen Stan Patrol 4207. The Mexican Navy already operates two similar Patrol Vessels and has currently two ships under construction in their shipyard Astillero de Marina Numero 1 in Tampico, which is situated on the coast of the Gulf of Mexico. Fifth Damen PSV for World Wide Supply
Damen Shipyards Group is set to deliver the fifth Platform Supply Vessel in a series of six to World Wide Supply of Norway. World Opal is a Damen PSV 3300 CD. The first ship, World Diamond, was delivered in July and the last in the series World Sapphire is due to be delivered mid-December. Delivery of the new design involved extensive CAD/CAM modeling by Damen Shipyards itself and model testing at Maritime Research Institute Netherlands (MARIN).
Damen Shiprepair Brest Earns ISO9001:2008 Certificate
Damen Shiprepair Brest (France) received certification from Lloyd’s Register Quality Assurance (LRQA) for aligning its quality and safety management systems with internationally recognized standards. Canada: Damen to Deliver 80m Ice Class Ferry
The Newfoundland and Labrador Provincial Government has awarded Damen Shipyards Group an order for a state-of-the-art, 80 m Ice Class ferry, which will operate on the Fogo Island-Change Islands service. Scheduled for delivery in September 2015, the 14-knot ro-ro ferry will be able to carry up to 200 passengers and 60 vehicles. The investment in the new ferry is part of the Government’s vessel renewal program. She will replace the aging MV Captain Earl Winsor.

The company's Brisbane hub, aimed to serve Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific, will provide warranty services, maintenance, training and spare parts, having been recently opened by the Honorary Consul of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Captain Kasper Kuiper. Alewijnse Diesel-Electric Propulsion for Damen Cable Layer
Systems integrator Alewijnse Marine Systems has been awarded the contract for the full electrical fit out of Damen’s new cable layer, now under construction for international contractor Van Oord for delivery at the end of 2014. Damen Shiprepair Books 7th LNG Carrier
Damen Shiprepair Brest (France) received her seventh LNG booking for the drydocking, maintenance and repair of the LNG carrier BachirChihan. The Hyproc Shipping owned and managed vessel will arrive November 25. The work scope on the BachirChihaniis extensive and reaches close to 30,000 man-hours. Damen Debuts Walk-to-Work Wind Farm Vessel

Rederij Groen Orders another Damen Vessel
During a contract signing ceremony at Europort 2013, Maaskant Shipyards Stellendam, part of Damen Shipyards Group signed the contract to build an additional Seismic Research Support Vessel for Rederij Groen. This latest contract follows last month’s order of two new Seismic Research Support Vessels (SRSVs) that are due for delivery in the third quarter of 2014. This third vessel, initially only an option, completes the latest phase of RederijGroen’s expansion and will be delivered in 2015.

Damen Quick Docking/Fuel Saving Package
Damen Shiprepair & Conversion developed a new product, the Quick Docking/Fuel Saving package, offering owners a fast and low-cost additional docking with the sole aim of reducing fuel consumption in between the five-year statutory survey period. The first vessel booked under the new concept has docked at Damen Shiprepair Brest (France). It is the capesize bulker Castillo De Catoira operated by Spanish company Empresa Naviera Elcano.

Rederij Groen Orders Two Damen Support Vessels
Maaskant Shipyards Stellendam (NL), part of Damen Shipyards Group, has been contracted again by Rederij Groen (NL) after delivering two chasers, the Aquarius-G and the Astra-G, earlier this year. Damen Books Four More Twin Axe FCS 2610 Orders
Marineco UK placed another order for two more Damen FCS 2610 Twin Axe vessels to serve its offshore wind activities, and Sure Wind, a British company specializing in the German market and new customer for Damen, has ordered two as well. The Scottish company Marineco was the first customer for the Damen Twin Axe vessel, which has become the industry standard since its introduction just over two years ago. Marineco’s two new additions will be delivered in 2014.
Van Oord Contracts Damen for DP2 Cable Laying Vessel
Van Oord has ordered a new cable laying vessel. The ship will be built at Damen Shipyards Galati in Romania and will be completed at the end of 2014. The vessel is intended for the installation of electricity cables for offshore wind farms. Van Oord is making preparations for the Gemini offshore wind farm which will be constructed 60 kilometers to the north of Schiermonnikoog, one of the Dutch Wadden Islands. The cable-laying vessel will be deployed at that site, among many others.
