DNV GL to Study Risks of Small Scale LNG Bunkering
In order to better understand the consequences of an accidental liquefied natural gas (LNG) release, DNV GL has been asked by the industry to initiate a Joint Industry Project (JIP). It will be run in collaboration with E&P companies and LNG market stakeholders. The JIP will contribute to the development of rigorous safety standards and guidelines for small scale LNG bunkering and filling stations. DNV GL Approves GTT Membrane LNG Bunker Barge
Houston-based GTT North America (GTT NA), U.S. subsidiary of French engineering and technology company GTT (Gaztransport & Technigaz SA), has received an Approval in Principle from DNV GL for the design of a 2,200 cubic meter liquefied natural gas (LNG) bunker barge. The distinctive design incorporates GTT’s proven membrane Cargo Containment System (CCS), which is utilized in roughly 70% of the global LNG carrier fleet and nearly 90% of LNG carrier projects on order.

DNV GL Conducts HAZID for Methanol Carriers
DNV GL has conducted a risk assessment “hazard identification study (HAZID)” on a series of three methanol-fuelled tankers for owner Mitsui O.S.K. Lines and shipyard Minami Nippon Shipbuilding in Japan. As these are the vessels with a flex fuelled low speed diesel engine using methanol and/or heavy fuel oil, DNV GL was asked to participate in the project for its expertise in the low flash point fuel including methanol and LNG.
