Van Oord announced on Tuesday it has christened its new trailing suction hopper dredger (TSHD) Vox Apolonia, built by Keppel Singmarine Pte Ltd shipyard in Singapore.The newbuild is the second in a series of three new dual-fuel liquefied natural gas (LNG) fueled TSHDs being built for the Dutch dredging and marine services contractor.The 10,500-cubic-meter-capacity Vox Apolonia and its sister vessels Vox Ariane and Vox Alexia, fall into the mid-class section of Van Oord’s TSHD fleet.

Keel Laid for Van Oord's Offshore Wind Turbine Installation Vessel Boreas
A keel laying ceremony was held Tuesday for the wind turbine installation vessel (WTIV) Boreas, being built for the Dutch marine and offshore services firm Van Oord.The ceremony took place at the YCRO yard in Yantai, China.The Boreas will be able to operate on methanol and will be capable of installing wind turbines of up to 20 MW capacity. The vessel, ordered in October 2021, will be 175 meters long and be able to lift more than 3,000 tonnes.

Van Oord's Cable Layer Rescues 49 Refugees in Mediterranean
The Dutch offshore installation firm Van Oord said Thursday that its Nexus cable layer had this week rescued 49 refugees in the Mediterranean Sea. "The cable-laying vessel was contacted by the Malta Rescue Coordination Center to give support, in the worsening weather conditions of the night of 16-17 November," Van Oord said."It is unknown for how many days the refugees - all men - were on a sea journey. Their origin is also unknown, due to language barriers.

China's Yantai CIMC Raffles Shipyard has ordered an integrated power, automation, and propulsion system from ABB for a newbuild offshore wind installation jack-up vessel (JUV) being built for the Dutch marine contractor Van Oord.The vessel, Boreas, is due for delivery to the owner in the second part of 2024, and it is said that it will be one of the largest and most technologically advanced hybridized units of the type in operation, measuring 175 meters in length.
Van Oord Books Eidesvik Offshore Vessel for Offshore Wind Trenching Support
Dutch marine services firm Van Oord has, via its offshore wind subsidiary Van Oord Offshore Wind, awarded Eidesvik Offshore a five-year contract for its Subsea Viking multi-purpose support vessel.The contract, of an undisclosed value, will start in the first quarter of 2023, Norway-based offshore vessel owner Eidesvik Offshore said. Van Oord will also have further extension options and, "on certain" terms, a call option for the vessel after the firm period.
