New Zealand Navy Buys OSV from Østensjø Rederi
Norwegian shipowner Østensjø Rederi said it has signed a contract to sell the light construction vessel Edda Fonn to the Royal New Zealand Navy (RNZN).The purchase price, including modifications and other services, is reportedly $103 million.The 84.7-meter vessel will be outfitted with dive-, ROV- and hydrographic system by Østensjø Rederi early next year, before being delivered to the RNZN in Auckland in May 2019.

New Gensets for De Beers’ Diamond Mining Vessel
Wärtsilä and De Beers Marine have signed an agreement for the replacement of generating sets aboard De Beers’ diamond mining ship Debmar Pacific. The vessel, originally built in the 1970s, will be outfitted with new Wärtsilä gensets to extend its lifetime and improve reliability.Debmar Pacific is engaged in diamond mining operations off the coast of Namibia. With modern gensets, the lifetime of the vessel is extended and its specific fuel oil consumption (SFOC) is reduced.

US-flag Great Lakes Cargo Movement Steady in July
U.S.-flag Great Lakes freighters (lakers) moved 9.8 million tons of cargo in July, a virtual tie with a year ago, the Lake Carriers’ Association reported. The July float was, however, 6.4 percent below the month’s five-year average.Iron ore cargos for steel production totaled 5.2 million tons, an increase of 5 percent. The July ore float was also the highest monthly total for U.S.-flag lakers since December 2014.Coal loads totaled 1.3 million tons, a decrease of nearly 11 percent.
