US Navy Aircraft Carrier Leaves Drydock
With tugboats guiding it into the James River, the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN 72) was moved from one of Newport News Shipbuilding’s drydocks to an outfitting berth on Monday. With this move, Newport News, a division of Huntington Ingalls Industries (HII), officially completed the drydock portion of the carrier’s mid-life refueling and complex overhaul (RCOH). Now at Outfitting Berth 1, the carrier will undergo final outfitting and testing.

High Daily Rates Boost Bourbon Q3 Revenue
Bourbon announced its financial results for the third quarter of 2014, in which its saw revenues increase by 5.7% year on year as fleet growth and higher average daily rates were partially offset by lower utilization rates. Bourbon said average daily rates increased in almost all segments and regions, owing in part to newer, larger vessels having higher day rates and also improved rates on some contract renewals and extensions.

U.S. Coast Guard crews escorted the USS. Harry S. Truman Monday through the southern branch of the Elizabeth River in Portsmouth, Va. The Coast Guard Cutter Sea Horse, home ported in Portsmouth, and response boat crews from Station Portsmouth provided the escort of the carrier during the transit.

Shipping consultancy Drewry and shipment management software solutions provider CargoSmart have expanded their cooperation agreement to cover a broader exchange of market intelligence data on the container shipping market. 12th ULSTEIN PSV Delivered to Deep Sea Supply
Zhejiang Shipbuilding in Ningbo, China, delivered Sea Swift, the final of 12 platform supply vessels (PSVs) of the large PX105 design to shipowner Deep Sea Supply PLC on October 23, 2014. The Deep Sea Supply vessels are 88.9 meters long and 19 meters in the beam. The vessels have diesel electric propulsion and can keep up a speed of 15.5 knots. The loading deck area is in excess of 1,000 square meters and the vessels each have a dead weight of 4,700 metric tons.

NOx-reduction System Ordered for Deepwater Vessel
MAN Diesel & Turbo won the contract to provide a Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) system for each of six MAN 16V32/44CR engines that will power the Petrofac JDS 6000 deepwater derrick-lay vessel ordered in January 2014 by international oil and gas services provider Petrofac. The SCR systems and engines will be constructed at MAN Diesel & Turbo’s Augsburg, Germany facility, while the vessel will be constructed by the ZPMC yard in China using a proprietary Petrofac design.
CTruk Sets Plans for Expansion
CTruk signed the lease on a 6,400m² site on the Colne Estuary, a few miles upriver from its current Brightlingsea base. The company plans to use the Fieldgates site in Haven Road, The Hythe, East Colchester to build the larger vessels required for offshore wind farm projects further out to sea. CTruk is pressing on with refurbishment of the existing building on Fieldgates to move some production activity over early next year.
Water Reclamation System for Rig Off Alaska
ACT2 delivered a WRS-40 water reclamation system to Transocean for the Polar Pioneer. The unit will operate in Alaskan waters and produce bacteria and virus free reuse quality water for 220 persons on the rig. Soon after delivery, Transocean ordered four additional units to be delivered in December 2014 and January 2015. Three of these units will handle 200 persons and the fourth will handle 30-40 persons.
