A charter agreement between expanding subsea contractor DeepOcean and Maersk Supply Service has triggered an order for a Damen Offshore Carrier DOC 8500 - the second order for this new ship design from Damen Shipyards Group. The DOC 8500 will extend DeepOcean’s capabilities in the larger cable laying end of the market, representing a new focus on Interconnector projects, in addition to oil and gas sector and renewables work.

UECC Orders Dual-Fuel Ice-classed PCTCs
United European Car Carriers (UECC), jointly owned by Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha (NYK) and Wallenius Lines, inform it has signed a contract to construct two triple-fuel LNG Pure Car & Truck Carriers (PCTCs). The contract has been signed with Kawasaki Heavy Industries (KHI) and the vessels will be constructed at the NACKS shipyard in Nantong, China which is a joint venture between KHI and China Ocean Shipping (Group) Company. Norwegian Group Sells Two Projects to Speed Shipbuilding Pull Out
Bergen Group says it has decided to accelerate the process of reducing its involvement in the shipbuilding business in favor of a more dedicated focus on offshore related activities. As a part of this process, Bergen explains it has entered into an agreement to sell two of the remaining shipbuilding projects to the shipyard group Kleven located in Sunnmøre, Norway. The sale will release approximately NOK 80-90 million in already invested working capital in these two projects.
IMB Warns of West Africa Piracy Threat
The ICC International Maritime Bureau is asking ships to be extra vigilant when transiting West Africa as piracy in the region becomes a growing concern. Since the beginning of the year, one vessel, MT Kerala, has been hijacked and six were boarded in West Africa. There was also one attempted attack. The hijacking of the Liberian-flag product tanker in January by Nigerian pirates has sparked fears these gangs are venturing further south.

The report, developed by ABS and ABS Group, provides a framework for addressing regulatory requirements related to LNG bunkering across North America.
