Three Crewmen Rescued from Vessel Blaze
Three crewmen have been rescued off Lowestoft this afternoon after their vessel caught fire in the North Sea. Humber Coastguard coordinated the rescue operation after the crew abandoned the ECC Topaz 10 nautical miles east of the town. The vessel had been heading out to service a windfarm when the blaze struck just before 1 p.m. The crew, who were wearing lifejackets, managed to get into a liferaft while they waited to be rescued by the Search and Rescue helicopter from RAF Wattisham.

Statoil Awards Siemens Wind Farm Service Contracts
As operator, Statoil has awarded two contracts to Siemens plc for the engineering, supply, assembly, commissioning and service of 67 wind turbine generators for the Dudgeon Offshore Wind Farm project. The wind turbine generator (WTG) supply contract will cover engineering, procurement, assembly and offshore commissioning. Each turbine (6 MW) consists of a tower section, a nacelle and three separate rotor blades (154-meter rotor diameter).

Classification society ClassNK (Chairman and President: Noboru Ueda) announced that it has released new Guidelines on the Welding of Duplex Stainless Steels. The guidelines have been developed to help shipyards safely and effectively make use of new duplex steels that are increasingly being used in the construction of cargo tanks for chemical carriers. Shipping Majors Expand Cooperative Setup
The CMA CGM Group announced a new cooperation setup with current partner Maersk Line, APL and OOCL on three existing Far East to Indian Subcontinent services (CIMEX 2/FM3, CIX, CIX3), starting in February 2014. Russian Trawler's Arrest: A Law of the Sea Test Case?
The Russian trawler Oleg Naydenov was recently arrested and escorted in to the Port of Dakar by Senegal navy vessels. If found guilty it faces a doubling of the usual fine, and the arrest has also sparked an appeal by African coastal nations for an opinion from the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea. A French military plane flying over Senegal's Exclusive Economic Zone detected some of the same vessels that had been stripped of their licences continuing to fish in these waters.
PIL's New ANW Service to Call Port of Seattle
The Port of Seattle says it will welcome Pacific International Lines (PIL) to its harbor in February. PILās new Asia Pacific Northwest Service (ANW) will call Terminal 30 in partnership with China Shipping Container Linesā (CSCL) and United Arab Shipping Companyās (UASC) existing joint service. Chemical Tanker Adrift Off Irish Coast: Tugboat Despatched
The tanker, carrying a 15,000-tonne cargo of caustic soda with 22 crew on board, lost power to its main engines 100 nautical miles off Loop Head while bound for Aughinish in the Shannon Estuary, reports 'The Irish Times'. The tanker, Hellesport Charger, registered in the Marshall Islands, was on a voyage from Corpus Christi in Texas in the western Gulf of Mexico to Aughinish in the Shannon Estuary when it lost power.
