Hyundai Heavy Unveils LNG Cargo Containment System
Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) announced it has developed a high performance Hyundai Membrane LNG Cargo Containment System. The shipbuilding giant’s new membrane type containment system for liquefied natural gas received Design Approval from classification societies including ABS and DNV. The containment system, useable for LNG carriers, LNG FPSO, LNG fueled vessel and LNG bunkering systems, features dual metal barrier and high performance insulation systems.
First Waterway Tankers Operational on LNG Only
The 110-metre long ships are ‘single fuel’: not just a first for Shell in the Netherlands but also for the inland waterway shipping industry. The two tankers will sail between Rotterdam and Basel, representing the next step towards more sustainable inland shipping. LNG is a significantly cleaner fuel than the traditional fuel oil or diesel. The Port of Rotterdam Authority strives for a cleaner port and the underlying logistics.
Ship Tunnel Plans for Norway's Stormy West Cape
Plans for a huge tunnel for ships if given approval would be the first such tunnel in the world and could become a major tourist attraction. If approved, reports newspaper Aftenposten, the tunnel will be built at Stad in the county of Sogn and Fjordane on Norway’s west coast. The stretch of sea along this northern part of the west coast, and around the West Cape, is notoriously treacherous for ships. The idea of building a tunnel here has been in the development stages since the 1980s.

Wärtsilä to supply cargo handling package, dual-fuel engines & propulsion for Denmark's Evergas to be built at Sinopacific Offshore & Engineering in China.
