Rapp Hydema Establishes Office in Stavanger
Rapp Hydema, the winch and deck machinery specialist, are opening a new office in Stavanger. “We are pleased to be present in Norway’s most expansive offshore environment. This new establishment is both strategic and necessary to meet our customers’ demands for service and support,” said Inge Henning Andersen, Managing Director of RH. Rapp Hydema has hired Runar Tunem to head the Offshore Sales Division in Stavanger, where he will be responsible for global sales and marketing.
Moray First Marine Continues to Grow
Moray First Marine based in Lossiemouth on the Moray Firth has recently seen the delivery of a second boat allowing them to take on a greater, more varied workload as they continue to grow in the marine industry. The new vessel, MV Seeker, is a 9.5m Osprey Cabin rib MCA Category 3 licensed to carry up to twelve crew during the day and six at night up to 20 miles from safe haven and is capable of cruising at 20 – 25 knots.

Three weeks of intensive work late last year by engineers from Royston Limited has won praise from the operators of the Normand Installer after it was found to need an urgent engine overhaul before resuming work off West Africa. The 14,506 gt offshore construction support vessel is notable for having a 350 tonne capacity A-frame, 250 and 50 tonne heavy lift cranes, carousel cable/pipe laying system, 500 tonne anchor handling/towing winch system and DP3 dynamic positioning system.
Containership Rescues Shipwreck Survivors
MOL-operated Containership Rescues 116 Shipwreck Survivors off Papua New Guinea. Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. announced that the MOL-operated containership MOL Summer rescued 116 survivors from the ferry Rabaul Queen, which sank about 17 km east of Papua New Guinea. According to local reports, the Rabaul Queen with about 350 passengers aboard was under way from the port of Kimbe on New Britain Island to Lae in Papua New Guinea.

STX to Design Canadian Icebreaker
STX Canada Marine Awarded Contract to Design the Canadian Coast Guard’s New Polar Icebreaker. STX Canada Marine is pleased to announce that they have been awarded the contract to design the new polar icebreaker for the Canadian Coast Guard. The Department of Fisheries and Oceans announced today the award on behalf of the Government of Canada. The work will be carried out at STX Canada Marine’s Vancouver office and be completed by the end of 2013.
