The International Jack-Up Barge Owners Association (IJUBOA) has published its Code of Practice and set up a scheme to recognise the competence of existing barge masters. The code provides a standard against which companies can be audited. It is based on the International Safety Management (ISM) code.

Corvus Energy's 6.5 kWh lithium-polymer batteries passed the requirements of Lloyd’s Register Type Approval certification tests. Lloyd’s Register North America, Inc., a leader in assessing business processes and products to internationally recognized standards, reported that the AT6500 module met Corvus Energy's manufacturing claims. LCA: Great Lakes Iron Ore Trade Up 9 Percent in August
Iron ore shipments on the Great Lakes totaled 6,551,329 tons in August, a decrease of 7 percent from July, but an increase of 9 percent compared to a year ago. August loadings also were up 24.6 percent compared to the month’s 5-year average. Shipments from U.S. ports totaled 5.8 million tons, an increase of 14.2 percent compared to a year ago. However, loadings at Canadian ports dipped more than 20 percent.

for everyone. Dry cargo demand growth is running at strong levels due to the twin processes of industrialization and urbanization in emerging markets. Annual average demand growth between 2011 and 2015 is likely to match and may even exceed the annual 5.2% growth witnessed between 2004 and 2008 – the years of the superboom in dry cargo vessel earnings. However, the massive amount of vessel ordering during and after the boom has led to the currently epressed freight market for dry bulk carriers.
