Bisso Marine Buries Pipeline in Gulf
Bisso Marine, a provider of energy and maritime support services, successfully buried a pipeline 16 feet below the hardened seabed of the Gulf of Mexico. Working in 54 feet of water, the crew of the DLB Big Chief installed a hot tap and used one of the company’s three 2,700 gpm@1,150 psi Super Jet Pump Systems to bury 13,893 feet of pipeline 10 miles off Galveston Island. The pipeline burial was especially challenging because of the hard shear strength of the soil on the seafloor.

Austal Opens New Shipbuilding Facility
Austal has officially opened its new Modular Manufacturing Facility (MMF), equipping its U.S. shipyard with the ability to build up to three 328-ft-plus vessels each year. Phase One of the new $88m facility boasts 35,000m2 of manufacturing space under one roof, including a 7900m2 warehouse, as well as paved parking for more than 2000 vehicles. An official ribbon-cutting ceremony celebrating the completion of Phase One was held at Austal’s Mobile, Ala. shipyard.

Launch of the SV Noordhoek Pathfinder
On Saturday 7 November 2009, the launch of the Noordhoek Pathfinder took place at the De Hoop Shipyard in Foxhol – The Netherlands. She is a 203.4-ft DPII ROV and Survey Support Vessel. The launching ceremony was officiated by Julia Anna Noordhoek, granddaughter of Leen Noordhoek and daughter of Cees Noordhoek, Directors of Noordhoek. The Noordhoek Pathfinder is currently undergoing the final stages of installation and commissioning of the crane and survey spread prior to commencing sea trials.
Wärtsilä Ship Design Contract for 12 Vessels
Wärtsilä, ship power system integrator, has signed a ship design contract with Pipavav Shipyard of India. The contract calls for a total of 12 Offshore Supply Vessels (OSVs) to be designed by Wärtsilä and built by Pipavav, for delivery to ONGC - Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Ltd, which is the largest oil and gas producer in India. The yard is scheduled to begin production of the first seven vessels in the first quarter of 2010.
