Southwest Marine Inc. (SWM), a West Coast network of ship repair ards, announced the award of an 11.5 million contract for work to be performed in Ingleside, Texas. The award of this five-year, phased maintenance contract on four MCM class ships, opens a new market for SWM in a new location on the Gulf of Mexico. SWM is leasing the repair facility from Braswell Services Group Shipyard based in Charleston, S.C.

The four ships involved are USS Avenger (MCM-1), USS Champion (MCM-4), USS Patriot (MCM-7), and USS Defender (MCM-2). The general work package includes hull, mechanical, and electrical repairs and ship alterations. Program management and several administrative functions such as purchasing, engineering and planning are being handled by SWM.
