K-Fleet Voyage Application Verified for EU MRV

K-Fleet Voyage, KONGSBERG’s digital application for monitoring ship fuel consumption and emissions, has been verified by Ecoxy AS for use under the EU Emission Trading Scheme (ETS) and the new EU Monitoring, Reporting and Verification (EU-MRV) for maritime transport regulation (2015/757). Ecoxy AS is accredited by Norwegian Accreditation as a verifier according to ISO14065 for the ETS and EU-MRV. The regulation, for ships exceeding 5000 GT and which call at any EU port regardless of flag or country of ownership, aims to quantify and reduce CO2 emissions from the shipping industry.

MSC Introduce 'Lone Star Express' and 'Amberjack' to the Transpacific Trade

Swiss headquartered Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) has announced two new services alled the ‘Lone Star Express’ which will operate between Asia and the US Gulf. This new service will become a new Gateway to/from the US Gulf in anticipation of increased demand. At the same time, MSC’s Everglades service will be renamed ‘Amberjack’ and restructured to include a call to New York, this change ensures both services will operate at optimum efficiency. All changes will be in effect from the first week of May 2016 (departing Asia). The Lone Star Express and Amberjack will continue to be supported by the America and Empire services currently in operation. MSC now provides four weekly services between Asia and the East Coast of the United States.

Sydney Ports Closed

Sydney Ports advises that all pilotage services have been suspended at Port Botany from 0630 hours local time September 23, and at Sydney (Port Jackson) from 0730, due strong winds and high swells of up to 7 meters. The ports will remain closed until further assessment Early September 24. Newcastle shipping movements are currently restricted pending assessments of conditions. The port remains under “Heavy Harbor Entrance”. All movements are being assessed consecutively, vessels have been able to sail out during today, but some inwards movements have been delayed.

Southern California Port Congestion

Hapag-Lloyd informs about the congestion at the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach that has reached a critical point. I. Several container ships are anchoring off the harbor and waiting in line to berth. Now Vessels are also being delayed due to ongoing congestion. II. There continues to be an acute shortage of truck power. The American Trucking Associations (ATA) estimates that the industry has a shortage of approximately 30,000 drivers nationwide. Hapag-Lloyd continues to explore opportunities to contract additional vendor companies. III. The success of the import delivery appointment system at some terminals has been limited in part by a lack of sufficient container handling equipment to pre-mount those containers prior to the scheduled pick-up appointment.

CMA CGM Launches US Gulf-South Africa Line

CMA CGM announced the launch of its new KHULU Line dedicated to the U.S. With the addition of its newest line, CMA CGM now offers its customers eight services with a weekly call in South Africa. The line’s first sailing will be MV GREY FOX voy. 7S001R, ETD Houston on May 7, 2014. KHULU’s rotation is: Houston, Walvis Bay, Cape Town, Durban, Maputo, Richards Bay, Houston. Last ‘Saltie’ of 2013 Season Departs Port of Duluth-Superior

The last oceangoing vessel to call on the Port of Duluth-Superior for the 2013 shipping season is expected to depart later today (ETD 4:00 PM). The Orsula arrived Sunday to load a total of nearly 22,000 metric tons (24,250 short tons) of durum wheat at the CHS and Gavilon grain terminals in Superior. Bound for Italy, the Orsula will be the last “saltie” to make a full transit this season of the 2,340-mile Great Lakes-St. Lawrence Seaway system. The 200-meter (656-ft) Orsula, flagged in the Marshall Islands, is operated by Fednav Limited, the largest dry-bulk shipping company in Canada.

MOL Implement USA/Far East Service Changes

MOL will implement the following service changes for its PCX service and will merge the PNW/PS1 services into a single loop with the service name PNW. The port rotation will not change but calling days (ETA/ETD) will change. Some transit times have also changed. The new service profile can be found at http://www.molpower.com//VLCWeb/UIStatic/Service/Service.aspx?svc=PCX. In addition, the nominal capacity of the ships will be changed from 8000 TEU to 6000 TEU. Hyundai Tokyo V. The PNW and PS1 services will be merged into a single loop with the service name PNW.

G6 Alliance Cancels Two Asia-Europe Voyages

As part of its vessel maintenance program and in connection with the national holiday in China, members of the G6 Alliance have announced two voyages to be cancelled in early October. The void sailings will be made on the following two services:  Loop 7 service in Week 41 (intended ETD Qingdao October 9)  EUM service in Week 41 (intended ETD Pusan October 7) The G6 Alliance, consisting of APL, Hapag-Lloyd, Hyundai Merchant Marine, Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Nippon Yusen Kaisha and Orient Overseas Container Line, said it will continue to offer services between the Far East and Europe covering all major port pairs with weekly sailings, and to make service adjustments where necessary.

Maersk Closes South Sea Island Service

Maersk Line announce that the ‘Tahiti Express’ service to/from French Polynesia will close down at end of April 2013. The last vessel sailing on the Tahiti service is the BC San Francisco, 1317, expected to depart (ETD) from Auckland (New Zealand) on 23 April 2013 and expected to arrive (ETA) at Papeete (French Polynesia) on 29 April 2013. Maersk add that they regret the inconvenience this may cause, will make every effort to assist regarding the service change.

The CSL Group Installs Veson

Changes to Mitsui Line Service

Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd announced revised coverage on its Asia-Mexico/West Coast South America network, which is operated jointly with Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha (K Line). The revised coverage will integrate the current two service loops, the WL1 and WL2, into a single service, the new WL1. In order to ensure continued coverage of those ports previously served by the WL2, the new WL1 service will add a call at Callao, Peru. Cargoes import/export Buenaventura, Colombia and Guayaquil, Ecuador will be served via Panama, using MOL’s existing Ecuador Express (ECX) service. The revised port rotation in WL1 is Keelung, Hong Kong, Chiwan, Xiamen, Shanghai, Pusan, Manzanillo (Mexico), Callao, Iquique, Valparaiso, Lirquen, Yokohama, Keelung.

Kelvin Hughes Launched ETD for Radar

Kelvin Hughes has recently launched "Enhanced Target Detection" (ETD) as an enhancement to its MantaDigital range of wide-screen radars. This new facility enhances the display of slow-moving or stationary targets without interfering with the normal radar appearance or operation. ETD, the latest innovation in the MantaDigital range provided by Kelvin Hughes, treats stationary and moving returns differently, highlighting the moving ones by displaying them in a different color.
