Norway-based offshore support vessel operator Eidesvik Offshore has appointed Arve Nilsen as its new Chief Operating Officer (COO) and Ellen Sofie Ottesen as its new Chief Technology Officer (CTO).Nilsen comes from the position of Technical Manager in Eidesvik with responsibility for technology, purchasing, and IT. He has more than 30 years of industry and technology experience and has been with the Company for 13 years.Ottesen comes from the position of Director of Sustainability in Eidesvik.

Diesel power engineering specialist Royston has introduced a next-generation version of its fuel management system, Enginei. The new integrated system, with a range of enhanced fuel data analysis and reporting options, has been developed in consultation with vessel operators and owners who are putting greater importance on the availability of detailed engine and mission critical information. To meet these demands the new Enginei system uses data collection software to expand the range of fuel, engine performance and voyage data used for crucial fuel analysis and optimization decisions.

In a refurbishment program to upgrade lifeboats on offshore platforms, Ampelmann completed a second successful reinstallation using its full motion compensation technology. The eight-metric-ton lifeboat was kept completely stationary above the vessel deck, to allow lifting by the platform’s davit cranes. Traditionally, refurbished lifeboats are reinstalled on the offshore structure in the following manner: a platform supply vessel takes the lifeboat offshore, where it is lifted from the deck to the sea.

OceanGate Inc., supplier of manned submersibles says it has made a strategic agreement with Global Diving & Salvage Inc., provider of marine construction & offshore support services in the United States, and an internationally recognized marine casualty responder. Under the agreement, both companies will pursue new sales opportunities by endorsing and utilizing each other's services and products. Global Diving & Salvage will be OceanGate's exclusive manned diving and salvage partner, and OceanGate will be the sole supplier to Global Diving & Salvage of manned submersible solutions. The agreement covers the East and West coasts of the United States, Alaska and Hawaii, and the Gulf of Mexico.

Eni USA R&M subsidiary of Eni S.p.A. Siemens SISHIP LV drives and SINAMICS components to power customer’s environmentally friendly, next-generation fishing vessel, saving up to 30% in annual fuel and maintenance costs. Based in Seattle, Blue North Fisheries (BNF) operates five fishing boats called “freezer long liners” in the Bering Sea and Gulf of Alaska and one smaller seiner in Alaska, Washington and Oregon. BNF’s largest vessel is 180-feet long with a crew of 23, while its smaller seiner is 58-feet long with a crew of six. Established in 1983, BNF has grown to approximately 150 employees.

Trudy Schoolenberg, PhD (Tech), has been appointed Vice President, Global R&D in Wärtsilä Industrial Operations as of August 15, 2010. Schoolenberg will be responsible for global Research and Development of the Wärtsilä products. Schoolenberg has a successful career in Shell in several leading positions with strategic, operational and technology experience since 1989. Most recently she held the position of General Manager, Strategy for Shell Chemicals in London, leading overall strategy and portfolio development.

Maersk Inc. contracted KCI Konecranes for the delivery of 30 Rail Mounted Gantry Container Handling Cranes (RMG) to APM Terminals' new container terminal in Portsmouth, Va. The contract calls for deliveries to begin in October 2006, and includes the option for an additional 30 cranes. The order value was not disclosed. APM Terminals' new Virginia container terminal project is the largest single private investment in container terminals in the United States. The new terminal is expected to set a new benchmark in the container handling industry, establishing new performance standards and methods of operation. The Konecranes RMG cranes will be used for high density container stacking and truck loading in the container yard.
