Caribbean shipyard Grand Bahama Shipyard Limited (GBSL) said it will complete work on 10 cruise vessels within first quarter of 2017. Fincantieri Launches Silver Muse
Silver Muse, the new ultra-luxury cruise ship which Fincantieri is building for the ship owner Silversea Cruises, was launched at Fincantieri’s shipyard in Genoa Sestri Ponente. Interior fittings will now begin, leading the vessel to its delivery, scheduled in April 2017. US Builder Secures Wind Farm Supply Vessel Order
Rhode Island based shipbuilder Blount Boats signed a contract with Rhode Island Fast Ferry for the construction of a crew transfer vessel (CTV) that will operate for Deepwater Wind Block Island, the shipbuilder announced today. New KNRM Vessel Performs Well at Sea Trials
Damen said a number of trials were conducted last week for the new search and rescue vessel for the KNRM (Royal Netherlands Sea Rescue Institution). Leading up to the official delivery ceremony scheduled for April 2014, the builder reported good results for both the capsizing test as the comparison with the current Arie Visser Class (another all-weather SAR from the KRNM). After completion, the KNRM will deploy the SAR NH1816 with a permanent captain and an on-call crew.

Seacurus: Seafarers Should be Protected Against Risk of Unpaid Wages
Specialist marine insurance intermediary Seacurus says that reported doubts about the insurance industry’s ability to insure the liability for unpaid wages of abandoned seafarers under the Maritime Labor Convention 2006 are inaccurate and ill-founded. It is already an agreed principle under MLC 2006, which came into force in August 2013, that liability for the unpaid wages of seafarers currently falls to the recruitment and placement services which help seafarers find employment at sea.
DNV GL to Class LNG Helgoland Ferry
The new Fassmer built Helgoland ferry for AG EMS, will be constructed under the supervision of classification society DNV GL. The nearly 80m long vessel will be the first German flagged newbuilding to be equipped with an propulsion system designed to operate primarily with liquefied natural gas (LNG) as a fuel. Using LNG as fuel allows the vessel to make significant cuts to its emissions to the air, bringing it into compliance with incoming regulations to protect the environment.

Hertel Signs to Build Hansteen Living Quarter
Hertel Offshore signed a €70 million contract with Hyundai Heavy Industries for the engineering, design and construction (EPC) of the new accommodation for Statoil’s Aasta Hansteen platform. This is another big Norwegian contract for Hertel Offshore and follows on from the award for Statoil’s Valemon Living Quarter (LQ) project in 2011 and the Shell Norge Draugen Additional Living Quarter project in 2012, both currently under construction in the Rotterdam facility.
