Transocean Provides Fleet Update Summary
Transocean Ltd. today issued a monthly fleet update summary which includes new contracts, significant changes to existing contracts and changes in estimated planned out-of-service time of 15 or more days since April 17, 2014. Three Sailors Rescued 1,200 miles off Cape Cod
The U.S. Coast Guard coordinated a rescue of three sailors approximately 1,200 miles east of Cape Cod, Massachusetts, at approximately 2 p.m., Thursday. Watchstanders from the 1st Coast Guard District command center in Boston were notified at approximately 6 a.m., Thursday, of a 406MHz emergency position indicating radio beacon signal registered to the 42-foot French-flagged sailing vessel Tao with three men aboard.

Munson Delivers Fireboat to Vancouver
Munson Boats announced its latest delivery of a 46’ Type IV Fire Emergency Response Vessel for the City of Vancouver Fire Department. Fully designed and built by Munson Boats in Burlington, Wash. the new vessel will operate in the lower Columbia River and can respond to incidents from Astoria, Ore. to Lewiston, Idaho. Twin Scania DI13-77M diesels producing a total of 1,500 horsepower are coupled to Hamilton 364 waterjets to achieve speeds in excess of 32 knots.

Wärtsilä Scrubbers for 6 Finnlines Vessels
With new, more stringent sulphur oxide (SOx) emission regulations due to take effect January 2015, Finnlines has ordered Wärtsilä Exhaust Gas Cleaning Systems for six of its Baltic and North Sea fleet of vessels, Wärtsilä said. By selecting the scrubber systems, Wärtsilä said the vessels will be able to operate in compliance with the new environmental regulations while continuing to operate on heavy fuel oil.

Honolulu Harbor Gets New Security Sign
Construction will be completed Friday of a new sign informing mariners of the 24/7 security zone in the Honolulu Harbor and whom to contact for permission to enter, the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) said in a press announcement. The sign, measuring 12 x 24 feet, is worded with large letters created using highly reflective tape, will be lit at night and is oriented so that mariners will be able to read the sign while still offshore, outside the security zone.

Foss Honors Newbuild POLB Fireboat
The first of two new fireboats built by Foss Maritime for the Port of Long Beach (POLB) was dedicated in a blessing ceremony on Thursday, May 1 at Foss Maritime's Seattle Shipyard, the company said. The vessel, named Fireboat 20, is being readied for service and is slated for delivery to Long Beach, Calif., this summer. Gary Faber, Foss Senior Vice President, made opening remarks and praised the hardworking men and women who helped construct the vessel.

Divers Guilty of Raiding Historic Shipwrecks
The Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) announced that two divers from Kent have pleaded guilty to not declaring valuable items from shipwrecks off the U.K. coast. David Knight and Edward Huzzey, both from Sandgate, admitted to 19 offences between them, contrary to section 236 and section 237 of the Merchant Shipping Act 1995. Items were taken from shipwrecks off the Kent coast, with the first known objects removed in 2001.
