The emergency agency in Nigeria reported that more than 40 people are missing after a boat carrying 50 passengers to a market in the northwest of Sokoto State capsized Sunday.
The boat was carrying passengers to Goronyo Market, a well-known food market in the area, when it capsized. Zubaidar Umar, head of the National Emergency Management Agency said on the social media platform X that ten people had been rescued.
The agency stated that it was collaborating with the local authorities and emergency responders to conduct a search-and-rescue operation in order to locate missing persons.
At least 13 people were killed and dozens of others are missing three weeks ago after a boat carrying around 100 passengers capsized on the Niger River in central Nigeria. (Reporting and editing by Chris Reese; Ben Ezeamalu)
