Eighteen die after migrant boat sinks off southern Greek island

An official of the coast guard said that 18 migrants drowned after their boat capsized 26 miles (40km) south of Chrysi in southern Greece. Two were rescued. The boat was first detected by a Turkish freight ship which then contacted Greek authorities.

Los Angeles Fire Department reported that all crew members were evacuated Friday from a ship in flames at San Pedro Port after an explosion disrupted the power supply and crane operations. LAFD reported that around 8:27 pm (0427 GMT), the remaining crew members had been helped off the vessel.
