Rolls Royce Sells Energy Gas Turbine Business To Siemens

Britain's Rolls-Royce Plc said it would sell its energy gas turbine and compressor business to German conglomerate Siemens AG for 785 million pounds($1.33 billion). Rolls, whose energy gas turbine and compressor business has around 2,400 employees, said Siemens would pay a further 200 million pounds for a 25 year licensing agreement granting access to relevant Rolls-Royce aero-derivative technology. "This agreement will give the Energy business greater opportunities as part of a much larger energy company and allows Rolls-Royce to concentrate on the areas of business where we can add most value," Rolls-Royce Chief Executive, John Rishton said in a statement.

MHI Acquires Pratt & Whitney Power Systems

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (MHI) completed its acquisition of Pratt & Whitney Power Systems, the small and medium-size gas turbine business unit of Pratt & Whitney (P&W), an aeroengine manufacturer. Pratt & Whitney Power Systems has changed its corporate name to PW Power Systems, Inc. (PWPS) and is now an MHI group company. The acquisition was completed in accordance with the agreement reached last December between MHI and United Technologies Corporation (UTC) of the U.S., P&W's parent company. As part of the acquisition, MHI also acquired Turboden s.r.l.

Small and Medium-size Gas Turbine Business Unit of P&W -- Agreement Signed with United Technologies, U.S. Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (MHI) has concluded an agreement with United Technologies Corporation (UTC) of the U.S. under which MHI will acquire Pratt & Whitney Power Systems (PWPS), the small and medium-size gas turbine business unit of Pratt & Whitney (P&W), an aeroengine manufacturer. Earlier this week, MHI and UTC, P&W's parent company, signed the agreement. PWPS engages primarily in the engineering, assembly and sales of aero-derivative gas turbines and also provides services of gas turbines and engineering, procurement and construction of related power generation systems. FastShip Signs With NASSCO For Construction Of Fleet

FastShip has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with National Steel and Shipbuilding Company (NASSCO), a subsidiary of General Dynamics, for the building of the first generation high-speed vessels comprised of the FastShip trans-Atlantic transportation fleet. Under the proposed agreement, NASSCO, designer and builder of new ships headquartered in San Diego, will construct four revolutionary vessels in the FastShip fleet. The agreement establishes a timeline to finalize a construction contract to include definitive pricing, delivery schedule and performance guarantees. NASSCO has also agreed to consider a financing commitment to FastShip, Inc.

Waller To Design Largest

Houston based marine design company Waller Marine has been contracted to design the world's largest single power barge. The 220 MW barge mounted power plant utilizes a combined cycle technology, comprising four LM 6000 aero derivative gas turbines, with chilled air intakes, each coupled to a Once Through Steam Generator (OTSG). The steam generated from heat recovery drives a 55 MW steam turbine generator. Measuring 348 ft. (106 m) with a 180 ft. (55 m) breadth designed per ABS structural standards, the barge, which will be constructed in Korea will be dry towed to the west coast of India, where it will supply power to the grid.

A recent swing through the vibrant Gulf of Mexico region helped to quantify the strides that have been made. In particular, much capital has been expended in improving the capabilities processing and cutting steel.
