Campbell to Lead BAE Systems’ Ship Repair Business
BAE Systems has named Joseph Campbell as vice president and general manager of the company’s Ship Repair business, effective Jan. 14. Campbell succeeds Bill Clifford, who will retire after a successful 46-year career in the U.S. Navy and the private sector. Campbell will be responsible for leading the strategy, operations and financial and business performance of Ship Repair, including the commercial shipbuilding operations. He previously served as vice president and director at American Systems Corporation, where he was responsible for undersea warfare and naval combatant programs.
BAE to Perform US Navy Repairs in Hawaii
BAE Systems has received a multi-ship, multi-option (MSMO) contract from the U.S. Navy to repair, maintain, and modernize nine destroyers and cruisers, either homeported in or visiting Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. BAE Sytems Agrees to Acquire Marine Hydraulics Intl.
BAE Systems entered into a definitive agreement with American Maritime Holdings, Inc. to acquire Marine Hydraulics International, Inc. (“MHI”), a privately held company that operates a shipyard, pier and waterfront facilities in Norfolk, Va. The proposed acquisition would complement BAE Systems’ support to its customers with enhanced readiness and sustainment maritime services. MHI is a marine repair, overhaul, and conversion company serving the U.S. Navy, Military Sealift Command, Maritime Administration and commercial ship owners and operators worldwide. The company employs approximately 400 people and would be integrated with the BAE Systems Ship Repair business.

Bill Clifford, president of Norfolk-based BAE Systems Ship Repair, has received the prestigious Frank C. Jones Award, presented by the American Society of Naval Engineers. Five Minutes with Bill Clifford, President, BAE Systems Ship Repair
How did you come to your current position? Clifford I currently serve as the president of BAE Systems Ship Repair and have been in this position since 2008. In this role, I lead our six full service shipyards and our 5,000 highly skilled employees. Prior to assuming my current role, I was the vice president and general manager of BAE Systems Norfolk Ship Repair. Before joining BAE Systems, I spent more than 20 years in the private sector serving in senior management positions at several shipyards.
IHC Merwede, BAE Systems Join to Service US OSV
IHC Merwede and BAE Systems will enter into a cooperation agreement to meet the demands of the offshore construction vessel market in the USA. This cooperation enables IHC Merwede to enter new markets, which is in line with the company’s internationalization strategy. The partnership also allows BAE Systems to increase vessel new construction in its commercially focused shipyards. According to the agreement, IHC Merwede, as a main contractor, will be responsible for the design and build of the vessels. The Dutch company has gained a reputation as a pioneer in the offshore industry.
BAE Names Clifford as President of Ship Repair Business
BAE Systems has appointed Bill Clifford as president of its Ship Repair business, effective April 1, 2008. Clifford will succeed Al Krekich, who will retire March 31, 2008, after serving as Ship Repair’s president for the past 10 years. As president, Clifford will lead the operation and grow the business, which provides ship maintenance and modernization services to U.S. Navy, government and commercial customers from shipyards in Norfolk, San Diego, San Francisco and Hawaii. Ship Repair also includes the Maritime Engineering & Services business area, headquartered in San Diego. Clifford has been with the company since 2004, when he served as president and general manager of Hawaii Shipyards, Inc., a United Defense Industries (UDI), Inc. company.
