Claxton, an Acteon company, has released an infographic guide to well abandonment costs in the North Sea. Released on the eve of the Oil and Gas UK Offshore Decommissioning Conference, held annually in St Andrews, Scotland, to discuss decommissioning in the region, the infographic highlights the costs operators are facing as they plan future campaigns. Abandonment cost reduction is an area where Claxton helps operators in the North Sea and beyond, via a proven suite of rigless technology. Claxton has experience in platform well abandonment and conductor recovery, having completed the world’s first rigless platform well abandonment in 2003. More recently, Claxton carried out the first rigless recovery of a stuck BHA for Maersk on the Tyra East field.

Congestion at Paradip expected to ease in a week if rains stop; higher-than-usual congestion at some other ports too. Claxton Engineering Services Ltd, an Acteon company, launched the latest version for its ATEX and safe-area crane boom cameras to improve operational safety through substantial upgrades in camera performance and its user interface. Enhancements to the camera, which according to Claxton is one in a range of best-in-class subsea and surface cameras, include state-of-the-art charge-coupled device (CCD) modules; a best-in-class 324-1 digital zoom (compared with 312-1 digital zoom on previous systems); and a 28× optical zoom lens (compared with a 26× on previous systems).

Decom North Sea (DNS), the offshore oil and gas decommissioning forum, is hosting a “lunch and learn” event to give supply chain companies the opportunity to present their offshore decommissioning capabilities and encourage knowledge share among members. Claxton Engineering Services Ltd, a member of the Acteon Group’s risers, conductors and flowlines business, has celebrated the 10th anniversary of its success with the world’s first rigless platform well abandonment operation. In that first rigless abandonment project, at the Perenco Well A1 in the Leman field, southern North Sea, Claxton used a custom conductor reaction recovery system designed and manufactured specifically to interface with the Leman platform and to retrieve and handle well trees and tubulars. Its full casing recovery package was also required.

Acteon announced the opening of its new Acteon Singapore Operations Center (ASOC) at the Offshore Marine Center in Singapore’s Tuas industrial area. The Center is the first purpose-built Acteon facility and has been designed to accommodate multiple Acteon operating companies and support their offshore operations throughout Southeast Asia. The 10,000-square-meter portside facility offers Acteon companies both high grade office space and engineering capability in South East Asia.

Claxton Engineering Services Ltd, an Acteon company, successfully responded to an urgent call to mend a rig diverter’s connection by providing a 30” dual seal overshot, a 30” casing cutter and personnel to oversee operations and requirements within 48 hours. During this time period, Claxton modified and dispatched the necessary equipment for its client. Under normal circumstances, this equipment is ordered a month in advance by the drilling contractor during well planning. The connection to the rig diverter prohibited the rig from operating. Claxton modified the overshot by cutting it to the precise size and welded the connection on top creating a pressure seal. Additionally, Claxton supplied cold-cutting equipment to ensure the space-out was correct for the overshot.

A custom-built service center at the new Offshore Marine Center in the Tuas industrial area of Singapore will boost Acteon operations and improve its customer service in Southeast Asia. Claxton Engineering Services Ltd, an Acteon company, is supplying a Norwegian client with a complete subsea drilling riser package enhanced by services and equipment drawn from around the Acteon Group. The 7000-psi, 24-in. riser will be used to drill one well and two completion wells in 135 m of water: the deepest water in the Norwegian North Sea tackled to date. Comprising riser joints, custom flange connectors, vortex-induced-vibration suppression fairings, a bespoke tension system and a proprietary Claxton NT2 handling tool, the riser system is the result of close collaboration between Claxton and several sister Acteon companies: 2H Offshore, Subsea Riser Products and Pulse Structural Monitoring. Subsea Riser Products is supplying the custom flanges for the riser.

Improved bunkering facilities in the Caribbean region are planned as a new agreement is announced between Petrotrin and BP Marine, which will combine to provide improved fuel supply services along the key west coast ports of Trinidad. Petrotrin, the national oil Company of Trinidad and Tobago have an established marine bunkering infrastructure, supplying quality fuels from its refinery at Point-a-Pierre. BP Marine and Petrotrin will from 1st November combine their individual strengths in bunkering, customer service, marketing and marine products to creating a new alliance and a significantly higher level of service. BP Marine will now, in association with Petrotrin, market marine fuels through supply locations at all ports on the west coast of Trinidad.
