VIBS ATB Completes Sea Trials
Van Isle Barge Services, Ltd. (VIBS) said that its Van Isle Link and Sealink Pusher articulated tug-barge combination (ATB) recently completed sea trials off the coast of Vancouver, British Columbia. This commercial drop trailer ATB is powered by two fuel efficient, V228 medium-speed diesel engines provided by GE Marine, Erie, Pa. Similar to others in VIBS’ fleet, the Van Isle Link/Sealink Pusher ATB will provide cargo services between Vancouver and Vancouver Island once it is placed into VIBS’ service rotation in early January.
M/V Sealink Maju 26 Seatrials Completed
On March 13, 2008 the new anchor-handling tug from Sealink Sdn. Bhd in completed sea trials. The ABS-classed 38 by 11.8-meter tug achieved speeds of 13.9 knots and a bollard pull of approximately 55 metric tons. Main engines are a pair of Cummins QSK60M rated for 2200 hp each at 1800 RPM and turning fixed pitch propellers in kort nozzles. The Sealink Maju 26 also has a bow thruster and two 245 kW, 415V, 50Hz generators.
COSCO Dalian Built PSV Completes Sea Trials
The first of the two 9,000 horsepower COSL deepwater supply vessel (PSV)built at the COSCO Dalian Shipyard ship has successfully completed sea trials. The trial results met the technical requirements to obtain the owner's praise. Navy Ship Completes Sea Trials
The Nimitz-class nuclear-powered aircraft carrier USS John C. Stennis (CVN 74) recently returned to homeport in Bremerton, Wash., after completing the first weeklong phase of sea trials, according to a Navy Newsstand report. The ship spent more than 11 months receiving extensive equipment and technology upgrades during a scheduled Docked Planned Incremental Availability (DPIA) at the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard (PSNS), which began in January. SEDNA Completes Sea Trials
Sonsub's newest cable burial and maintenance system, SEDNA, has successfully completed system tests and sea trials off the Louisiana coast at depths exceeding 9,900 ft. The system has been delivered to the CRABSS - Craft for Repair and Burial of Submarine Systems - Maintenance Authorities in Portland, Ore., where it will be on 24-hour callout service to perform cable survey, cable repairs, deburial/burial and maintenance for a period of six years. In-house designed and manufactured, the 500 shp free flying trenching system was built on INNOVATOR technology with ease of maintenance and high system reliability in mind. The ROV Trenching System is capable of constant operations in six knots of current and trenching at speeds of 800 m/hr. in soils with shear strength of up to 80kPa.
CSO Deep Blue Delivered
Coflexip Stena Offshore said its new-built ultra deepwater pipelay and subsea construction vessel, the CSO Deep Blue, was delivered on March 1, by Hyundai Mipo Dockyards after is successfully completed sea trials. CSO Deep Blue - at the time of the release -- was sailing to the Netherlands, where her unique CSO designed pipelay equipment, will be installed. This pipelay system will allow the vessel to lay rigid pipe (reeled and J-Lay), flexible pipe, and umbilicals down to 8,200 ft. (2,500 m), offering CSO clients the full range of products and installation options for their deep and ultra deepwater developments. The vessel is to begin operations during summer 2001 after sea trials with her pipelay equipment.

Russian Shipyard Delivers Indian Navy Warship
The second of three stealth frigates, the 'Tarkash', is handed over to the Indian Navy by the Yantar Shipyard, Kaliningrad. Russia and India signed a $1.6 billion contract on construction of three modified Krivak III class (also known as Talwar class) guided missile frigates for India in 2006. The first frigate, INS Teg, joined the Indian Navy on April 27. The last in the series of three frigates, Trikand, currently undergoes dock trials and after it completes sea trials in the Baltic Sea will join the Indian Navy in the summer of 2013.
PIRIOU Secures Order for 26-meter WFSV
Shipbuilder PIRIOU in Vietnam has received an order for the BMT Nigel Gee designed wind farm support vessel (WFSV). The vessel, Ocean Wind 8 of Hartlepool, will be delivered to AIS (Marine) 2 Limited at the end of March 2015 for operations in the North Sea. The vessel has completed sea trails, achieving 31 knots with 8 metric tons DWT, the designer reported. Ocean Wind 8 of Hartlepool is 27 meters long with a beam of 8 meters, utilizes BMT’s catamaran hull form and is fitted with Hamilton Waterjets propelled by by 2 x MAN diesel engines.
Hornbeck Completes Sea Mar Fleet Acquisition
Hornbeck Offshore Services, Inc., has completed its previously announced acquisition of 20 offshore supply vessels (OSVs) and their related business from certain affiliates of Nabors Industries Ltd. for cash consideration of $186m, plus the cost of the fuel inventory on such vessels. The Sea Mar Fleet is comprised of ten 200 class DP-1 new generation OSVs and ten conventional OSVs. The company also acquired one 285-ft. DP-2 new generation OSV currently under construction at a domestic shipyard with an anticipated fourth quarter 2008 delivery. The total estimated cost of this newbuild vessel, prior to allocation of construction period interest, is approximately $34m, of which $7.3m was paid to Nabors at closing. All of the vessels acquired by Hornbeck Offshore are U.S.
Norsafe AS Workboat Completes Sea Trials
Norsafe AS reported exceptional bollard pull and low speed thrust using twin UltraJet 305HT waterjets coupled to twin Yanmar 340 bhp 6LYA-STP engines. The survey boat Munin is designed and tested according to the "Nordic boat standard" for workboats. During sea trials a speed of 30 knots with a displacement of 8 tonnes was comfortably achieved and a bollard pull of 2.8 tonne was recorded. According to Norsafe, the workboat has excellent reliability, maneuverability, and sea keeping abilities, making it suitable as a work platform for maintenance on seismic cables. In addition, Munin is designed to operate away from the Mother Ship for extended periods, with a sufficient range for long time operation. The boat is equipped with a spacious wheelhouse with seating for a crew of four.
New Oil Skimmer
A new high-capacity oil skimmer completed sea trials. Designed by Ro-Clean Desmi, the skimmer uses two Desmi 250 vertical screw pumps, which have a well-proven ability to pump a wide range of oils from light to very heavy, perhaps emulsified. The weight of the skimmer head is only 690 lbs., and is powered hydraulically through floating hoses from a 150 hp diesel hydraulic power unit. The pumps are fitted with a cutting knife to handle most trash. The skimmer features a self-adjusting weir system, which automatically responds to the water movements, like gimbals, ensuring recovery efficiency.
U.S. Shipping Partners Takes Delivery of First ATB
U.S. Shipping Partners L.P. announced the delivery of its new articulated tug barge unit (ATB) the pusher tug Freeport and the parcel barge Chemical Transporter. The Partnership believes the ATB Freeport is the first IMO I ATB to be constructed in the United States. The ATB Freeport has successfully completed sea trials and has received necessary certification by the U.S. Coast Guard and the American Bureau of Shipping. The new vessel departed the shipyard on July 1, 2007 for its first load port in Louisiana, and following completion of two routine design verification test procedures and arrival at the load port, it will lift its first cargo, which is anticipated to occur at the end of this week.

A Crown Corporation of the Provincial Government, BC Ferries' subsidiary - Catamaran Ferries International (CFI) - was established in 1996 to construct the PacifiCats for BC Ferries. It was this past March that the Government proclaimed its intent to denounce CFI and sell the PacifiCats. The vessel trio, known as PacifiCat Explorer, PacifiCat Discovery and PacifiCat Voyager, are among the largest passenger/vehicle fast ferries internationally. Fully loaded, these 400 ft. (122 m) vessels can transport 1,000 passengers and 250 automobiles at a speed of 34 knots.

Ensolve Biosystems' Senior Scientist Receives Top Honor
Dr. Donald W. Kelemen, senior scientist of EnSolve Biosystems, has been selected as an honoree for the 2000 American Chemical Society's Industrial Innovation Awards Program. Dr. Kelemen is a co-founder of EnSolve Biosystems and played an instrumental role in the development of the PetroLiminator, the first biomechanical oily water separator for the marine industry. The PetroLiminator is a patented system that uses a combination of mechanical separation and bioremediation to treat bilge water so that it can be safely discharged overboard in environmentally sensitive waterways. Introduced in early 2000, the PetroLiminator has been type approved by the U.S. Coast Guard, IMO and Canadian authorities to meet international clean-water standards.
GE to Supply Austal with Gas Turbines for Navy Ships
GE Marine said it will provide Austal USA, Mobile, Ala., with four LM2500 marine aeroderivative gas turbines to power the United States Navy’s 14th and 16th Independence-variant Littoral Combat Ships (LCS). GE is providing 20 LM2500 gas turbines for the Austal USA LCS program, part of a contract for up to 10 ships over a five-year period. The Austal-built LCSs are powered by two LM2500s arranged in a combined diesel or gas turbine configuration with two diesel engines. According to Austal, Coronado (LCS 4) will complete sea trials later this spring.

India Launches Second Scorpene Sub INS Khanderi
India's second Kalvari class Scorpene submarine was launched into water - or 'undocked' - by the Union minister of state for defence Dr Subhash Bhamre at the Mazagon Dock Limited (MDL). The submarine will undergo rigorous tests and trials on the surface and underwater before it is commissioned into the Indian Navy as "INS Khanderi" at the end of the year in December. Admiral Sunil Lanba, Chief of the Naval Staff and a host of other dignitaries witnessed the launch. The submarine is named after a 17th century Maratha island fort.
USS Ronald Reagan Departs for Sea Trials
The U.S. Navy's only forward-deployed aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76), departed Commander, Fleet Activities Yokosuka (CFAY) May 7. Ronald Reagan's crew shifted colors at 11:54 a.m. and made way to conduct sea trials in the final phase of the ship's selective restricted availability (SRA) maintenance period, which began January 10. "I am extremely proud of the Reagan crew's accomplishments up to this point of our SRA period," said Capt. Buzz Donnelly, commanding officer.
Cargotec Transfers Battle Tanks Between Ships
Designed to transfer military vehicles between ships at sea to support US Army and Marine Corps land forces as part of the US Navy’s Sea Base strategy, Cargotec’s innovative test article vehicle transfer system (TAVTS) has now successfully completed sea trials. These were carried out by the US Navy’s Strategic and Theatre Sealift Program Office (PMS 385) which is part of Program Executive Office Ships (PEO Ships). TAVTS is part of a risk-reduction effort by the US Department of Defence Maritime Prepositioning Force (Future) when transferring military vehicles between ships at sea.
GE Power Conversion Comes Up Trumps in 'MSC Preziosa' Trials
'MSC Preziosa' successfully completes sea trials with its GE Power Conversion electrical power & propulsion system. Built from the STX yard in Saint-Nazaire, France, MSC Preziosa is the latest ship in MSC’s Fantasia-class and the 12th in the MSC fleet. The vessel has recently completed a series of sea trials including propulsion and maneuverability (speed ranges, full speed, crash stop, power plant and propulsion interactions, full/partial propulsion configurations) as well as noise and vibration measurements.
USNS Montford Point Floated from NASSCO Building Dock
General Dynamics NASSCO completed the complex float out operation for the first Mobile Landing Platform (MLP) ship, USNS Montford Point. Construction of the USNS Montford Point is progressing ahead of schedule, with the ship currently at 91% complete. The ship will now undergo final outfitting and testing pier side before completing sea trials. USNS Montford Point is scheduled to be christened in March 2013 and delivered to the U.S. Navy in May 2013. Fabrication of the second MLP, the USNS John Glenn, began in April 2012.
