CORTEC Expands Manufacturing Capacity

CORTEC, a manufacturer of API compact ball valves and manifolds, has expanded its CORTEC Manifold Systems (CMS) Lafayette, La. manufacturing facility and relocated to new premises in Port Allen, La. According to Stephen Corte, vice president of CORTEC, the move was necessary to support the company’s growth initiatives and increase in customer demand. The facility now supports a full range of CORTEC’s service operations, including: sales, engineering, quality, machining, product assembly and testing, inventory and coating.

Piracy – EU Naval Force Protects WFP Shipments to Somalia

One of Portugal's largest warships, the Vasco de Gama Class frigate NRP Corte Real added its name to the list of ships (EUNAVFOR) operating in the Horn of Africa sea area. The new addition to the fleet will mount counter-piracy operations, with a view to protecting WFP aid shipments to Somalia. Commissioned into the Portuguese navy in 1990 the Corte Real is no stranger to the Horn of Africa, having previously worked to prevent piracy under the 'OCEAN SHIELD' NATO Operation.

CMA CGM Group Takes Delivery of Corte Real

CMA CGM Group took delivery this morning, Monday August,16th, in South Korea of the CMA CGM Corte Real (13,830 teu) built by DSME (Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering), the third of a series of eight vessels named after the great explorers. CMA CGM Corte Real (365 meter long, 51,2 meter large and 15.5 meter draught) is up to date the largest vessel sailing under the UK flag, a European flag which is part of the white list of the “Paris Memorandum of Understanding on Port State Control” a guarantee of safety, security and environmental protection. The vessel will join the CMA CGM Christophe Colomb and CMA CGM Amerigo Vespucci on the FAL5 service (French Asia Line) linking Asia to North Europe.

CG, Golden Gate Ferry – Emergency Exercise

Residents of Corte Madera located on the northeast side of the , saw an increased emergency response activity as area responders participate in an industry-led exercise on Wednesday, October 22, 2008. The interagency exercise, sponsored by Golden Gate Ferry in coordination with Coast Guard Sector San Francisco, took place at 4 which is located off the . The exercise was designed to test the Bay Area Vessel Mutual Assistance Plan including agency emergency evacuation capabilities, and mass rescue operations, as well as the ferry system transportation infrastructure. Phoenix Express 2008 Underway

Phoenix Express 2008 (PE 08) wrapped up the inport portion of the exercise on April 13 and began the underway portion of the two-week exercise on April 14 with 12 ships getting underway from Naval Support Activity, , . Two ships from the Nassau Expeditionary Strike Group (NAS ESG), the amphibious assault ship USS Nassau (LHA 4) and the amphibious transport dock USS Nashville (LPD 13); along with the frigate USS John L. Halter Lays Keel For PCTC

Pasha Hawaii Transport Lines (PHTL), which is building a Jones Act Pure Car and Truck Carrier, at Halter Marine, reported that an important step in the creation of the ship - the keel laying - had taken place at Halter Marine. At a partners' meeting held October 25, PHTL announced that on September 21 Halter Marine, Inc., under international standards, completed fabrication of the required percentage of the total hull weight of PHTL's new-build vessel --enabling the official laying of the ship's keel. Vessel construction began in mid-June 2000. In early January, 2001, The Pasha Group-Van Ommeren Shipping Joint Venture will host a ceremonial celebration with Halter management and personnel to mark the setting of the first assembly on the shipway at Halter's yards in Pascagoula, Mississippi.

VT Halter Launches PCTC

VT Halter Marine recently launched MV Jean Anne, the first Pure Car Truck Carrier (PCTC) to be built in the U.S. Built by VT Halter Marine at its Pascagoula, Miss., facility, Jean Anne is one of the largest vessels to be launched by a U.S. mid-tier shipyard. "Today marks the successful launching of the first modern PCTC to be built in the U.S. for the Jones Act trade,” said George W. Pasha, IV, President, Pasha Hawaii Transport Lines. The ship is owned and operated by Pasha Hawaii Transport Lines, a joint venture between The Pasha Group, a Corte Madera, Calif.-based leading global transportation and logistics provider, and Strong Vessel Operators LLC, a Stamford, Conn.-based ship owner and operator. Measuring 579 ft. overall, with a beam of 102 ft.
