Gulf Craft to Invest $100m in Dubai Shipyard

Dubai Maritime City (DMC), a maritime cluster in Dubai, today announced an agreement with Gulf Craft to invest in a free hold plot located within the marine district of DMC, on an area of approximately 900,000 square feet. According to DMC, Gulf Craft plans to make a $100 million investment in developing this facility over the next five years. It will include a state-of-the-art shipyard to manufacture high-end luxury yachts as well as a service center incorporating cutting-edge, highly specialized technology for the yacht industry.

FRC to Run Canadian WBV Courses

FRC International is running the first programme of ‘Back To Back’ Whole Boat Vibration (WBV) courses in Canada this April. The lead for these courses is the Canadian Coast Guard and the Canadian Navy, being part of a move to improve sea safety. Attendance is open to all organisations operating RHIBs & planing craft, as well as builders, equipment manufacturers and others in this industry. Whole Boat Vibration on RHIBs and planing craft is a global problem that affects the health of crew and passengers.

VMT on IMO’s Recognition of Survival Craft Simulation

The International Maritime Organization (IMO) has approved proposed changes to the Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping (STCW ‘95) Convention at a Diplomatic Conference in Manila, Philippines. Acceptance of the amended STCW Convention and its associated Codes means simulators have been formally recognized as a suitable tool for survival craft training. Custom Fireboat Delivered in Texas

Lake Assault Boats, manufacturer of purpose-built and mission-specific fire and rescue boats, has placed into service a 28-foot fireboat with the City of Conroe Fire Department in Conroe, Texas. The craft was delivered in mid-May. Assistant fire chief for the City of Conroe Fire Department, Paul Sims, said, “When our purchasing committee put out for bids, we received eight quotes from different fireboat manufacturers from across the country. We carefully evaluated each and every one to compare specs, prices, and company history and reputation.

Scania to Supply 24 V8 Diesels to Finland Navy

The Finnish Navy’s new high-speed Watercat M18 AMC landing craft are to be fitted with twin 16-litre V8 engines from Scania. Built and designed by Marine Alutech the new landing craft displace 29 tonnes, and are 19.3 metres in length. They are designed for a broad range of applications such as troop and medical emergency transportation, evacuation tasks and landing operations. The Watercat is powered by two Scania engines, developing 662 kW (900 hp) each, at 2,300 r/min, driving via a water-jet propulsion system.

FRC International is running the first program of ‘Back To Back’ Whole Boat Vibration (WBV) courses in Canada this April. The lead for these courses is Canadian Coast Guard and Canadian Navy. These courses are part of improving sea safety and are open to all interested parties. The object is to include all organizations operating RHIBs and planing craft. Both venues also enable boat builders, equipment manufacturers and industry to attend. The first two days of ‘Back To Back’ courses are in Ottawa at the Convention Center.

Crew Systems Integration 2013 Program Announced

FRC International will host CSI 2013 - Crew Systems Integration conference from July 2-4, 2013 at RNLI Lifeboat College, Poole, U.K. The international conference includes over 20 presentations focusing on nine integrated topics for the RIB and high speed craft sector. Aegean Exits Singapore Bunker Market

Aegean Bunkering Pte Ltd on Friday said it had this week left the world's largest marine fuels market in Singapore after handing back its supply and craft operator licences. The company had announced in October that it would halt physical supply operations in Singapore by January amid heightened commercial pressures after the city-state adopted tougher bunkering procedures. Aegean Bunkering, headquartered in Greece, was last year ranked the 20th largest marine fuels supplier by volume in Singapore from a total of 55, data from the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) showed.

Ribcraft Announces Deliveries

RIB for Milford Fire DepartmentRibcraft, the U.S. designer and manufacturer of rigid inflatable boats (RIBs) announced a series of recent deliveries.
