Hornsea 2: First Power Achieved at World's Largest Offshore Wind Farm
Offshore wind developer Ørsted said Monday that first power on Hornsea 2 offshore wind farm in the UK was achieved after its offshore substation (OSS), the world’s largest offshore AC substation, and reactive compensation station (RCS), were installed in late October 2021.When fully operational, Hornsea 2’s 165 8 MW Siemens Gamesa wind turbines will be capable of generating 1.32 GW of clean electricity – taking the title of ‘world’s largest operating offshore wind farm’ from its sibling project Hornsea 1.

The offshore wind giant Ørsted has introduced a new operating model for the Offshore business, to support the execution of its project pipeline and future growth."The global market opportunities in renewables continue to expand and present significant opportunities for growth. World’s Largest Offshore Wind Farm Generates First Power
The first turbine of the 1,218-MW Hornsea 1 offshore wind farm in the North Sea, the world’s biggest such facility, has been installed and is now generating power.Matthew Wright, UK managing director of Danish energy group Ørsted A/S, described the installation of the first turbine as "a globally significant milestone".Ørsted co-owns the project with Global Infrastructure Partners (GIP) after selling a 50% stake to the latter in November 2018. Ørsted began offshore construction just over a year ago, and expects the project to be completed by Q1 2020.The project is located 120km off the Yorkshire Coast and will consist of 174 Siemens Gamesa 7MW turbines.
Louis Dreyfus Orders Wind Farm Vessel
The Louis Dreyfus Armateurs Group (LDA) and Ørsted, the Danish global leader in renewables, reinforce their 2017 partnership with the order of a second service operation vessel (SOV) dedicated to Hornsea Project Two offshore wind farm off the English coast. As sister vessel of the Wind of Change, the first SOV ordered by LDA in 2017, this second ship will also be designed in close cooperation with Salt Ship Design and will be built by CEMRE for a delivery in 2021. ABB to Link Offshore Wind Farm to UK Grid
ABB has won an order worth more than $250 million from the Danish energy company DONG Energy to deliver a 220-kilovolt (kV) high-voltage cable system that will connect the Hornsea Project One Offshore Wind Farm in the North Sea to the UK mainland grid. This is the third project that ABB will execute for DONG Energy, following the Burbo Bank extension and Walney extension links in the Irish Sea. First ‘round 3’ Wind Turbine Installed at Westermost Rough
The UK’s first commercial 6 megawatt (MW) wind turbine has been installed at the Westermost Rough wind farm, in a new landmark for renewable energy. The next generation machine, designed by Siemens and erected by DONG Energy, is the first of 35 at the 210MW North Sea project. It is hoped that the ‘round 3’ turbines, with their greater output, will help cut costs for the offshore wind sector. Duncan Clark, Westermost Rough programme director for Dong, said, “This is a major landmark in the construction phase of this project and its achievement is a great credit to the DONG Energy team and our supply chain partners. The Westermost Rough project is 50% owned by DONG Energy, whilst the Green Investment Bank and Marubeni revealed this week they are to refinance part of their 50% shareholding.
