VesselsValue Warning on Tanker Market

According to VesselsValue, the recent events have resulted in an increasingly pessimistic short term outlook for the Tanker market, after a positive autumn and winter."In short, factors contributing to supply growth and demand constriction have combined to bring down Tanker rates," it said.Last summer, the US put sanctions on a number of Chinese Tanker owners. Due to the opaque ownership structures of the fleets, charterers stayed well clear of any vessel possibly related, thus reducing the available supply ultimately causing rates to peak at a 10 year high.Combined with terrorist activity in the gulf, and a number of other vessels going out of service to have regulatory equipment installed e.g.

Interferry CEO Mike Corrigan explains why the global trade association is poised to take its work to the next level. While I respect the mantra of cautious optimism, I can’t help feeling genuinely excited that 2019 could prove to be a milestone year in the continuing growth of Interferry’s influence as the global voice of the ferry industry. We’ve come a long way since our US origins in 1976 as what was essentially a networking movement, but developments in recent months already suggest we are on course for yet more enhancement of our present-day worldwide networking and lobbying relationships.

Protecting Marine Diesel Engines from Cat Fines Damage

DNVPS has warned that cat fines levels are increasing year by year. Lower sulphur marine fuels have even higher cat fines levels than typical heavy fuel oils (HFO). The ExxonMobil MobilGard lube oil monitoring service, concludes that 43 percent of all ships “have a potentially catastrophic issue with cat fines,” based on testing more than 400,000 marine diesel oil samples. So, cat fines are a very serious threat to every ship burning heavy fuel oils. What is the solution? Many have studied this serious problem, and all have come to the same basic conclusion: eliminating the 3 to 5 micron cat fines (and larger) will prevent the cat fines from damaging fuel injection pumps, fuel injectors, piston rings, pistons, cylinder liners, exhaust valve seats and stuffing box seals.
