More than 150 leaders in the cruise industry from around the world will meet here this week, as the Port of New Orleans hosts the 2016 Platinum Associate Membership Advisory Council Conference of the Florida-Caribbean Cruise Association (FCCA). Local elected officials and tourism leaders will meet with cruise executives from FCCA’s 19 Member Lines, along with key cruise tourism stakeholders, to update them on New Orleans' tourism economy, infrastructure and attractions. Upcoming Cruise Shipping Asia-Pacific Conference organizers announce travel agent training program at Singapore conference. Cruise Shipping Asia-Pacific – conference and trade show focusing on the emerging Asia–Pacific cruise industry —  announce details for its second edition of Travel Agent Training. Taking place during Cruise Shipping Asia-Pacific, September 17-18, 2012 at the Marina Bay Cruise Centre Singapore, the Travel Agent Training sessions are organized in partnership with the Asia Cruise Association. The program will include Beginner and Intermediate tracks designed to enhance the travel agent's knowledge and productivity in this fast moving market.

The ICCA joins Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA), which has also pledged exclusive backing, and the Asia Cruise Association (ACA) and the Florida Caribbean Cruise Association (FCCA) as supporters of Cruise Shipping Asia-Pacific 2012, which will be held at the Marina Bay Sands, Singapore on September 17-18, 2012. The U.S. Coast Guard issued a Navigation and Vessel Inspection Circular (NVIC) providing an addendum to its Foreign Passenger Vessel Inspection Book consisting of an environmental inspection checklist. The checklist was developed with the participation of the Florida Caribbean Cruise Association (FCCA) and the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) and takes into consideration new regulations on cruise vessel operations in certain Alaska waters. The checklist does not change the regulations, but provides an extensive list of possible inspection items related to pollution prevention equipment, operation, plans, and records. (HK Law)

The International Council of Cruise Lines (ICCL) along with the American Association of Port Authorities and the Florida-Caribbean Cruise Association brought together the ports of the Caribbean June 25-27, 2003, in Jamaica, to discuss the implementation of new international security requirements. The workshop provided an in-depth overview of the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code, as required by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) by July 2004. The ISPS Code provides a standard global security framework that will enable ports, shipping companies and governments to operate on equal preparedness and response levels. The IMO developed the ISPS Code to implement maritime and port security regulations in response to heightened security issues since Sept.

The American Association of Port Authorities (AAPA) and the Florida Caribbean Cruise Association (FCCA) will work cooperatively to serve the port and cruise industries. The agreement was announced at a meeting of leaders of AAPA and FCCA at the offices of the Tampa Port Authority. Michele M. Stephen A. Nielsen, Vice-President, Caribbean & Atlantic Shore Operations, of Princess Cruises, who serves as chairman of the FCCA Security Operations Committee, added, "It's long overdue that the AAPA and the FCCA work more closely in dealing with issues which affect the members of both associations. Today's agreement expands existing links between the two organizations, according to Kurt J. Nagle, president of AAPA. "Many of AAPA's major cruise ports are also members of FCCA," Nagle noted.

U.S. public port authorities will invest just over $9 billion in the next five years to improve and expand their facilities, according to Deputy Maritime Administrator John Graykowski, who addressed the American Association of Port Authorities' (AAPA) 88th Annual Convention, held in New York last week. Ports are spending record levels to expand and improve their facilities to meet projected demand, Graykowski said. Local port authorities have spent almost $20 billion since World War II. In 1998, ports invested nearly $1.5 billion, almost equaling the record set in 1997, including $154 million for general cargo. During the five-year period between 1999 and 2003, ports predict they will spend $9.1 billion, compared to $7.7 billion between 1998 to 2002.

The 2002 Seatrade Cruise Shipping Convention and trade show will be held on March 11-15 at the Miami Beach Convention Center, Miami, Fla. It will provide cruise lines and suppliers a venue to exchange ideas on marketing and management, as well as the latest advances in ship operation, technology, and vessel design. In the wake of the September 11 terrorist attacks, the cruise industry is facing its most serious challenges in a decade. With a stagnant global economy, massive fleet redeployments and consumers wary of traveling, the 2002 Cruise Shipping Convention will provide a forum where cruise line executives and suppliers can find ideas, products and services to help them stay competitive in a harsh business climate.
