NATO, Promostudi Sign Maritime Research Agreement

The Promostudi Foundation and the NATO Centre for Maritime Research & Experimentation (CMRE) today finalized a three-year maritime research and development agreement. The agreement between the two organizations, both based in La Spezia, Italy, includes agreements on joint innovation activities, research in the maritime environment  and reciprocal exchange for educational and scientific purposes, both nationally and internationally. In particular, opportunities will be developed for cooperation in issues of common interest such as robotics, underwater acoustics, underwater systems, and more generally in systems engineering and ICT (information and communication technologies).

Italian Shipyard Fincantieri Invites Academia Input

Fincantieri together with Genoa University's Polytechnic School, is promoting 'Innovation Challenge', with a large investment as the Italian shipbuilder seeks new shipbuilding ideas with a cost-efficiency focus. The initiative, arising from a well-established collaboration between the company and Genoa University, will be financed by Fincantieri with a total investment of up to Euro 500,000. It will seek to capitalize on and develop the best ideas originating from the university in order to translate them into product innovations in areas most critical to competitive advantage…

Tideland LED Lanterns Help Protect Mediterranean Dolphins

Tideland Signal's self-contained SolaNOVA-65 lanterns mounted on Floatex elastic beacons are being used in Genoa University's Arion Life project designed to protect dolphins swimming in the Mediterranean. The main objective of the project is to improve the conservation status of bottlenose dolphin, as well as other cetaceans and turtles that are protected by habitat legislation but very exposed to threats from human activity and resource exploitation. The project is designed to address the dangers posed by commercial and leisure craft, including collisions and noise pollution.
