JRC Reports ECDIS Success in Greece

Greeks, perhaps more than any other people in the world, have been mariners without interruption throughout history. At 100 years old, JRC has a long maritime history in the field of marine electronics, something that the shipping nation of Greece recognizes now more than ever. This could be why the JRC ECDIS has become a preferred choice for many shipping companies. With new mandates and especially for retrofitting projects, cost effective choices are typically made. ABS Adds to Membership

At the recent ABS Council meeting in N.Y., 40 prominent members of the shipping and offshore industries were elected as new members of the international classification society. The ABS Council also elected two new members to the society’s Technical Committee. “ABS governance is vested in a membership comprised of distinguished individuals drawn from the international shipping, shipbuilding and offshore industries, from academia, the insurance sector and other related disciplines,” said ABS Chairman and CEO Robert D. Hellespont Appoints Papachristidis-Bove

Alexander Papachristidis-Bove has been appointed Chairman of the Board and Managing Director of Hellespont Steamship Corp, the Piraeus-based ship management and marine services company, with effect from October 1, 2009. He replaces Dr. Mike Kennedy, who assumes the role of Managing Director of Hellespont Consultants Corp and remains responsible for the company’s newbuilding programme.
