British Gov't Met Potential Buyer for Tata Steel UK
The British government opened talks on Tuesday with potential buyers for Tata Steel's UK operations, including Sanjeev Gupta's commodities company Liberty Group, as it stepped up its battle to find a buyer for the loss-making business. Accused by opposition lawmakers of being "asleep at the wheel" when India's Tata Steel put its entire British operations up for sale last week, Prime Minister David Cameron also met ministers to discuss the options for a business which employs 15,000 people. Britain's business minister Sajid Javid met with Gupta in London to establish how firm his interest was in the business. He was later due to fly to Mumbai to meet Tata Chairman Cyrus Mistry to agree the process for a sale.
New Inflatable Tube and Pipe Weld Purging System
When welding tubes and pipes such as stainless, duplex, chrome etc., it is important to purge the internal bore with an inert gas to prevent oxidization, discoloration and to ensure a good internal weld profile. Huntingdon Fusion Techniques (HFT) announced it has introduced PurgElite, a range of tube and pipe purging systems to achieve a clean, oxide free, zero color weld. These systems are manufactured to suit pipe diameters from 25-600 mm and are made of low outgassing rate materials, which gives them the ability to produce high quality welds in tubing and piping.
Minimize the Risks, Think Cold Bonding
Hot work required for welding, grinding and cutting operations presents certain potential hazards when conducted in potentially explosive and flammable environments. According to the Health and Safety Executive guidance 2013, “flammable liquids and vapors such as petrol, diesel, fuel oil, paints, solvents, glue, lacquer and cleaning agents are found in many places of work. In order to minimize the risk, cold bonding solutions involving materials that are applied and cured at ambient temperatures can offer an alternative solution for repair and newbuild applications on metallic surfaces.
ADPC Ink Long-term EMAL Export Agreement
Abu Dhabi Ports Company (ADPC) has signed a ten year agreement with Emirates Aluminium (EMAL), to handle the export logistics of finished aluminium products from EMAL’s production site. The volume of exported metal will grow gradually from 600,000 metric tonnes in 2014 to 750,000 in 2015 onwards. The signed agreement covers all of the handling operations and transport logistics for the finished products from EMAL’s site to the container freight station and export terminal at Khalifa Port.

News: Lakes Shipping Down 1.4 Percent in 2002
Dry-bulk cargo movement on the Great Lakes totaled 162.3 million net tons in 2002, a decrease of 1.4 percent compared to 2001 and a drop of 6 percent compared to the 5-year average. Iron ore shipments totaled 58.9 million net tons in 2002, an increase of 5.8 percent compared to 2001, but a decrease of 9.2 percent compared to the 5-year average. North American raw steel production totaled an estimated 101.7 million tons in 2002, an increase of 2.4 percent compared to 2001, but the amount of steel made in Basic Oxygen Furnaces that turn pellets into hot metal fell 4 percent to an estimated 50.1 million net tons. The Lakes iron ore trade was essentially non-stop in 2002.
