Irving Shipyard Looks for Council Support
According to a report from Metro News, Canada’s Irving Shipyard is looking for HRM council’s endorsement. A recommendation will be put before council May 3 asking for their support in Irving’s bid for a federal shipbuilding contract. Irving is one of five shipyards shortlisted for the contracts that will be worth $30b over the next 30 years. (Source: Metro News)
Canadian Maritime Engineering Buys Breton Gray
Canadian Maritime Engineering of Dartmouth Nova Scotia announced the purchase of Brenton Gray Boatyards of Sambro Head. Located near the approaches to Halifax Harbour, Brenton Gray Shipyard has a long history of ship repair and two marine slipways, the largest capable of lifting a 300 ton vessel. CME has plans to expand and develop the existing facilities and waterfront site adjacent to the Port of Halifax. Canadian Maritime Engineering won the NATO supplier excellence award in 2008, and operates, coast to coast, with branches in Victoria, Sarnia, and over 60,000 sq ft of modern facilities at three locations in Nova Scotia and is part of a Canadian owned company with over 300 skilled tradesmen and approximately 100 in Nova Scotia.
SCI Signs MOU with Govt of India
The Memorandum of Understanding between SCI and Ministry of Shipping for the year 2015 - 2016 was signed on 27th March 2015 at New Delhi by Mr. Rajive Kumar, Secretary (Shipping), MOS and Shri Arun Kumar Gupta, C&MD, SCI. Mr. Alok Srivastava, Additional Secretary, MOS and Capt. Yogesh Puri, Regional Gen. Manager, SCI were also present on the occasion. When asked for details of the MOU, Mr A. K. Gupta stated, "The MoU signed between SCI and Ministry of Shipping can not be made public but it broadly contains Financial and non Financial targets.

BSM Adds Simulators at Cyprus Training Center
Bernhard Schulte Shipmanagement (BSM) has invested in a Full Mission Bridge and an Engine Room simulator for its training center in Limassol, Cyprus, allowing BSM to offer training for the career development of its own officers, as well as external training for participants in the region. Training will include STCW (Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping) courses as well as tailor-made customer courses to the advanced level required for Deck and Engineer officers.
Damen: Contracts, Deliveries and Expansion
In the past weeks, Damen Marine Components (DMC) and Damen Anchor & Chain Factory (AKF), both part of Damen Shipyards Group, reported successes in their respective lines of business. DMC has completed several projects for the offshore, ports, defense and fishing markets, and is expanding its business and facilities in Poland. It also acquired a new ISO certificate. AKF expands its ready available stock anchors. AKF reported the arrival of the first shipment of additional stock size HYT-12 and HYD-14 anchors in June.
